Advice on 2.2 i-DTEC reliability

Hi Everyone,

I am thinking about buying a 2.2 I-DTEC and my plan was to have it remapped. Just wondering if they are as reliable as the I-CDTI? Also has the weak clutch which was found in older 2.2 been sorted in the newer 2.2?

With regards to rest of engine, is there anything I should look out for? Also what spec is the best? Is it EX?

Thanks in advance.

If you are planning to have a remap, I'd probably be wary of the clutch.
There is an OEM Revised clutch (Which you should be able to find out about with a bit of a search around), But with a remap it will probably struggle.

There is a known problem on that engine with the EGR pipework cracking. Whist not the subject of a recall, Honda do acknowledge the issue and are likely to help (to some degree).

The DPF is an obvious 'problem waiting to happen'. Do not be tempted to have the DPF removed, as the MoT is changing to catch out vehicles being used illegally with this modification!

Upgraded clutches were fitted as standard to the more powerful Accord 180S, these can be simply fitted to the standard iDTEC (as used in the Civic).
