I bought my 63 plate 1.6 DTEC in January and it's been fine.

The mpg when I first got it was on average a reported 68 or thereabouts, then I got used to the car and stopped using Eco mode and just drove it and got 65 mpg say on average which is fine. More on motorways less on windy country roads. All good.

In the last two months the average mpg has just been going up to a typical 74 mpg for mixed driving. I don't think I've changed my mix of driving or driving style.

But yesterday on the motorway for 110 miles going was 75 mpg and I wasn't being shy about passing and cruising nicely. That's OK.

I filled up with fuel for the return leg and managed 88.5 mpg to home over 130 miles including the 110 on the motorway. Coming off the motorway I was at 90 mpg. Now I was trying here running at 60-65 mixing it with the goods vehicles.

Just seems odd to me to get such different mpg from 65 to 85 in six months.

If it was my old Discovery I'd look at the the air filter and expect it to be dirty but that a simple engine with barely any software intervention.

Any thoughts?

Check again when the temperatures cool down, so will your MPG.

What mileage has it done and to open a can of worms what fuel you using. Brand/spec.
I've just done my annual jaunt over 1000 miles with some lovely steep hills mixed with long motorway hauls, packed with two smallish cases,holdall and 2 camping chairs my camera bag plus other junk and got 71 average.

Oh wow,
I'm having trouble reaching 57 mpg!

17.5 miles each way to work - out of which about 12 miles is the M5 ;D

Reset my counter yesterday for a journey home but didnt do so until i was on the M4. Just as i reached the brow of a hill at 73mph on the cruise control (real speed 70mph according to my sat nav). Got up to 118mpg for a mile before being back down to 80 at 2 miles and 72 by the time i got home. The 118 was nice though !!

Yep slip streaming trucks.

Nothing special about the fuel Q8 or something.

Get yourself Roadtrip if you have a iPhone. This is my cost/mpg/mileage so far this year. The red represents real reading whilst grey is what my computer claimed. Your computer unfortunately cannot be trusted for real mpg, whilst it is more accurate on motorway cruises it is still out. Your better doing it manually for a real life reading on your mpg.

Yeah the 1.6 diesel can vary quite a lot with the mpg. Bare in mind when the trip meter is reset, they can take a while to stabilise, I saw everything from 199 mpg (the max it can show) to late teens not long after a trip-reset, usually it's stabilised after about 30 miles. Fuel makes a difference too in my experience, with Gulf giving me best computer and real mpg.

In my current 8G 1.8 petrol it's a similar story with the trip, I saw 150 mpg indicated after a trip reset last week, which was showing 119 mpg after 5 miles (like a saddo I took photos of these figures), when I arrived at my destination after 40 miles it was showing 88 mpg, now it's stabilised it's only showing 51 mpg lol.

Normal service has now resumed with a 200 mile round trip on Friday delivering 69 mpg on A roads from the midlands to the West coast of Wales. That's the norm for that run.

I'm off to Bristol on Monday I shall see if that 80 mile run can give 80+, I'm in no hurry.

The trip mpg is a guide and disnt account for fuel being used when ** foot is off the throttle...
As previously stated, best way is to work out what mileage you have used between fill ups and work out the mpg that way...
When I had my 1.6 dtec, I averaged out over 60mpg all the time... on steady runs with no stop/start traffic this would hit over 70mpg..

when it gets really warm (for uk) diesels do give much better mpg
and in turn in cold winter when they switch to winter diesel and the colder weather we loose a few mpg

I had the idea that modern engine management systems cut the fuel to the engine when on engine braking above idle speeds. I must get back into the habit of measuring brim to brim fills for mpg. Always did it with previous diesels.

80 mpg there starting 11am travelling at 60-65mph and the 9pm return at 70 cough was 72 mpg, pretty much as you'd expect I'd say.
