New Car (to me) - Defect Fixes

Hi,
I've a new car (2 year old Civic) and have noticed after ownership of just under a week a couple of defects that I wasn't aware of. They are:
- Nearside Tail Light contains water
- Corroded Rear offside alloy

I was wondering what peoples thoughts were, on whether these would be covered either because I've just purchased it, or under Honda warranty.

I think (obviously) both should be covered... I've took some photo's and emailed the dealer for their view... wondered what people thought may be the likelyhood of getting these resolved for nothing... or how much hassle I might have to go through.

How much water in the tail light?
If it's a light condensation, it's a feature - If there is actually pooling water, that's a problem.

Is is a diamond cut alloy? I imagine they may fend this off as wear and tear if it's been stonechipped etc - Best of luck though!

Here the light.... Looks a lot to me bit disappointing if it's like the 8g and they still haven't sorted it. They're LED so I doubt they're cheap to replace.

As for the alloys... I shall ask, but it should have been spotted before I picked it up.

The light looks like condensation rather than pooling water (in the photo at least). I had very bad condensation, bit worse than yours, in my CRZ light and it was replaced under warranty. I would take it to Honda and take some pics to show them when it’s bad.

The alloy claim you will struggle with. At two years old they will probably say the alloy will have been chipped/scratched/inappropriately washed which has caused corrosion. Diamond cuts are a nightmare to keep perfect sadly.

I too would say the tail light is somewhat acceptable (From a manufacturer perspective) - Though if they sort it for you, even better!

I've not looked at those lights for a while yet, but if you can get a silica gel packet in the sealed area, job should be jobbed.

I think they're completely sealed units.. so there's no way in.

I'm guessing they'll say, that's how they are.... today you can't tell at all as it's only just after you wash it, it steams up!

I tried to claim for wheels shortly after buying mine but was told by the dealer "Honda doesn't cover wheels", which surprised me as I had previously claimed successfully from both Mazda and Volvo.

That is certainly NOT true. If the damage is due to a manufacturing defect, it's 100% covered (by law), and I know if that's the case Honda do cover it.

If it's considered where and tear.. then they don't, depends what's reasonable.
