halfords dash cam fitting

any one used halfords for buying/fitting a dash cam to there 9g (or any other really)
after being right behind a fatal road accident on Friday its made me more interested in a dash cam
just wondering if I buy from halfords should I get it fitted or fit myself
the cost for fitting is very reasonable in my opinion 30 for front or 50 for front and rear

apparently they hard wire to fuse box and hide all wires which has put me off buying before as id probably never get round to fitting how id want it
need to look into it more but very tempted

Fit it yourself it is very easy to do, you will so a better job as it's your car so you care more and if you buy an option connection (see loxy) this is plug n play and hidden

I know its not a hard job
but that's the thing I don't have much spare time so tend to loose fit to make sure things are working then never get round to doing right
also my car has rear privacy glass so is that too dark for a rear camera

I have rear camera with privacy glass. No problem. Plus I just keep it plugged into socket in boot, not hard wired. My front camera I hardwired myself. Earthed to metal pipe under dash. I did solder my connectors but you can crimp on. Mines a nextbase so bought nextbase hardwire kit and with a option connector soon sorted

thanks for that
helped a lot
what model next base you got

front and rear is under 200 if I was to pay for fitting I wouldn't need to worry about any extras
but wont pay for fitting without knowing what halfords rep is on fitting
obviously will be different from store to store
but there would be some sort of come back if I paid them
I get on with a few in my local ok as I have trade card and use them a bit

I've hard wired few dash cams front and rear.

You'll need fuze socket extension/adaptor picture attached. In your owners manual find fuse socket marked as spare/accessories and test with electrical tester if there is power only when ignition turned on (1st position).
Wire it there.
If you don't have a spare one use any as this extension allows you to do it, I've used for my same fuze socket as for headlights.

Few things to watch out for when feeding wire behind A pillar trim try not to feed it in front of the SRS airbag hiding there do it behind.
If possible use plastic tools, metal tools can make permanent imprints into plastic trims.
Do it yourself, take your time it won't be 2h job if you've never done it before. Allow whole day for it.
Do you have original hard wire kit or are you cutting cigarette lighter end and doing it that way?

Depending on your fuse box, you may need an adaptor like the one above, but for micro fuses. like the bottom one HERE

My rear is a nextbase 312GW. My front is a 512GW. Both are wifi so I can download straight to my phone (not a fast process) via nextbase app or take memory card out and transfer to computer. With computer nextbase software you can see details about journey, route, speed, g-force etc.

Halfords fitted my Nextbase and have had no issues with fitment. Just a small bit of wire showing from headcloth to base.

I've used Halfords before, for my wife's Ford Ka, and they fitted the cam no problems. Wasn't a bad price, got the SD card at the same time...fitted in the hour and then walked us both through the functions and how to view files.

I am about to take our new Honda Civic in to to get a Nextbase Mirror Cam fitted, as i was impressed with their knowledge about the products and functions without me needing to read pages and pages of instructions.

I would recommend them to others, but you can always fit it yourself and save a few bob. Your choice.

I got them to fit it as if there are any warranty issues there's no ambiguity over it being fitted incorrectly.

I don't mind fiddling with the Oily bits on a Car but don't like touching electrics.

That's my thinking if they fit it theres waranty

30 quid for front including fitting kit that's 20 so it's only a tenner extra
Or 30 if you buy rear aswell. Front and rear plus 50 fitting all in 250
If I could have sourced cheaper else where might have fitted myself
But at moment looks like I might just go all in at halfords
But might wait for them to have 1 of there offers on

Does seem a good price for the fitting. JMO but id buy the VIOFO A129 Duo Dual Full HD 1080P, plenty of versions on Amazon with hard wire kits, filters and memory cards. Next base are bulky and seem to have those massive sucker mounts too. But I appreciate if the fitting is the is main issue I see where your coming from.

stopped using amazon after a few attempted hacks of my account
amazon suspended my account while they looked into it
while account was suspended someone placed a few orders totalling almost a thousand pounds
needless to say I contacted amazon to ask how orders can be placed on a suspended account
still waiting for apology and explanation
inside job in my opinion
amazon have no security measures at all to protect your account if someone knows your email address that's all they need to alter your account

Ok Ebay then, lol. BTW MY Ebay account has been hacked twice. One day I came home from work to find id bought about $100k's worth of Apple products, the second time AUS$250k of precious stones.
