Question Split charge relay for 2nd battery?

Looking at getting a caravan and read the how to guides on fitting tow bars which is very handy, thanks.

One thing I would like to do is add a 'spare' leisure battery in the boot of the Civic (in appropriate box secured to the floor, vented etc) to charge when driving around so that when the caravan battery gets low I can swap them. We plan on doing some sites that don't have hook up and I like my gadgets and hate being without power.

As my mk9 diesel has stop start so I think it has 'intelligent' charging?

Does anyone know if I can just use a traditional split charge relay to charge the battery in the boot or do I need some sophisticated 'battery to battery' charger costing a few hundred quid?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
