Anyway, if it's an alternative make you're looking for, check out the Alfa Romeo Guiletta - the 1.4 Multi-air Petrol Turbo has decent BHP, and can of course be mapped, to quite surprising levels (I doubt if the 1.75 will be imported to Norway) ...

I like the looks, as it is also "not a Golf" ! - only drawback really, is that spec. for spec., it seems to be a bit more expensive ...

First of all I have to correct myself; I will of course not manage to add 150 K km's to it in a couple of years more, (God forbid!) it should say 'It will probably reach'!

The Alfa's are great cars design wise and for the sporty feel and handling, and definately not yet another Golf!
However, what I'm not so sure about regarding Alfa's are their reliability! They are well known for all their issues, especially on earlier models!

I'm thinking more in direction of the next generation Mitsubishi Lancer and (don't laugh) the next gen. Hyundai i30! They have taken a big step in the right direction, opposit the Civic! I've seen the pics of it, and I like it quite well, especially the front view!
Looking forward to see it in the flesh!

They were well known - but they shifted the entire factory to a different City, before the launch of the MiTo - the reviews of the MiTo and Guiletta are now rather good regarding quality ...

But - a bloody HYUNDAI ! ...

Tip - take several large drinks, then lie down in a darkened room, until the urge passes away !!! ...

That Hyundai for sure doesn't look that bad! I wonder about prices and engines. Do the cleaner engines produce some decent power...
And interiorspace at the rear

I quite like the new I30 and the interior looks really good. I also doubt it will cost anywhere near what the new Civic is priced at.

The Hyundai looks much better than the 9G and even the VW boss was impressed with it!

That i30 looks really nice inside and out, funny watching four blokes in suits feeling and touching the trim, are the Korean's catching up and indeed overtaking some Japanese makes?

Attitudes towards them reminds me of the same attitudes Japanese makers faced not so long ago.

I think the Civic might even be behind on spec:

Quote:
For the first time in a Hyundai car of this size, the i30 will be available with a knee airbag for the driver, adaptive headlights, instruments with a high-resolution TFT LCD display and an electric parking brake.
Other available options will include a large panoramic sunroof and an integrated navigation system with a 7-inch color monitor and a rearview camera.

In fact interior looks as nice as the current Civic in shape and much better in materials.

Beats the new Civic hands down:

I'm also seeing:

- Start / Stop Button

- Full Dual Climate

- Some kind of Clean Air System

- Heated Seats

Some very nice materials in use around the gear lever as well.

Don't forget these pictures will be from the highest end i30.

Also the pricing on these new Hyundai's is getting ever closer to the mainstream. Just check out the new i40 for example.

If the i40 is anything to go by, I wouldn't get too excited.

Yeah I know its top spec. That's pretty easy to see from the leather and sat nav.

My point really was the similarity in both external and internal pictures is quite striking and with the Hyundai appearing to have superior quality internal materials and finish.

I get the feeling Honda are lagging in design, when the 2 are almost identical and quality judging from the appearance and alleged reports from the motor show in the link, and finally price judging from Honda's new published prices.

Would I buy a Hyundai? No because of the badge - although would anyone 5 years ago have bought a Skoda?

I think Hyundai are getting there.

As I posted in another thread, I saw the new i40 and was quite impressed by the design, this i30 seems to follow the same basic design ideas.

Nice. Especially the interior.

No idea how they drive though.
Hyundais of the past haven't been close to Honda in the handling - gearbox - engine department.

I second that, I'm actually surprised with that i30. It's pretty smart to be fair, quite nice looking inside and out.

Yes, Hyundai are obviously mimicking the Civic with the i30 - and as i posted before, it actually looks pretty o.k. ...

But - again as before - I've been in and driven a few Hyundais (hired cars), and they are most emphatically NOT "Drivers Cars" - nor can I exactly see the aftermarket rushing to create nice mods \ upgrades ...

Totally agree, but, I haven't driven any of the newest generation of their cars. I doubt they are up to Honda´s levels yet, but who knows, they may be moving in the right direction even in that area.... or not. Test drive needed.

I will say the same thing as I said for i40 - the engines are lacking at the moment. The turbo charged engine for kia/hyundai rumour does not seem to be true.

Meh, I'm not that impressed by it to be honest, give me the Civic any day. The interior looks pretty good but the car still looks a bit bland. I think it looks quite similar to the new Focus and Astra which both look alike.

Whereas I'm not a Hyundai fan myself, I'm just pointing out similarities in looks and quality, I don't see how you can say the car looks similar to the Focus and Astra.

If you check my side by side pics above, then apart from an accent line down the bonnet and side the new Civic and the Hyundai are almost identical externally.

I still don't think the i30 and the Civic are all that similar, and what I meant is that the i30 is just like every other car on the road, its nothing special. At least the Civic looks more unique. Take a look at these comparisons...

I still wouldn't buy a skoda today. Very ugly un-engaging cars with all the street cred of a rotting stag. The owners tend to think they are somthing there not - a VW - VW may own skoda but they make sure they dont look or drive as well as any of their own VW range.

The i30 on the other hand looks better than anything skoda have ever produced. And I have to say I do prefer it to the new civic - Will still have to see them both in the flesh first though. Do agree Hyundi do seem to be stepping their game up
