Rear side motorised spoiler?

Saw these trims on the 9G rear wings yesterday which looked like a stuck on bit of plastic. The dealer explained they come out at speed to help airflow which I found strange, and to be honest a bit of an afterthought. Surely something like would be engineering into the design instead?

Your wrong dan................

They extend out about 12ft either side when you hit 30mph.

Took the heads of my mums daffodils with them yesterday............she was absolutely f****** furious

(its unbelievable the mis-information out there nowadays)

Isn't that where the machine guns pop out? Don't you love the patter a salesman will come out with to sell a car (No offence Dan lol!)

I didn't believe him at all but let him have his 5 seconds of fame!

There was me thinking it was like the super pursuit mode on KITT in Knight Rider (Hasselhoff days), giving you an extra 200bhp!

To me I think it's a really bad afterthought to need to stick on an ADDITIONAL bit of plastic AFTER the car is designed to help airflow. It's not even subtle.

Oh and by the way, the dealer was in Halesowen but I didn't get the saleman's name.

You have to ask whats the point ?
Im sure the wiper will effect the aero much more than them

I've read they improve airflow also to aid fuel efficiency but they're certainly not motorised

I imagine they gave it a fair bit of thought.

You dont incurr the cost of tooling up for something like that for no reason.

F1 teams make ridiculously small tweaks to their aero that you would never imagine could make any difference at all....but it does.

I agree. Had it been thought about properly in advance surely they would have just moulded the shape into the rear wing instead of sticking a panel piece on afterwards.

F1 teams cars spend most of there time well above 100mph and can take corners just as quick
The difference those bits of plastic will make (on a civic) are SO minimal you'd never see it

I fail to see the use of them tbh, they're too far back to act as V-G's to create turbulent air around the rear bumper properly IMO

As for fuel effieicency improvments, they increase drag no matter how you look at it; so i doubt it

At the least they must have put them on their for some reason though you have to admit. Honda must have done wind tunnel tests to show they don't increase drag and aid economy or so their literature would lead you believe

well if it works, it works otherwise why bother to stick them on personally I'd much prefer if they did extend when you hit 88mph, now thats a selling point!

That would be pretty cool
To all the golf owners you talk to "OH but does yours have speed relative moving wings? like the Mclaren? Mine has 2..." haha!
