Just bought 1.6 I-DTEC EX

Delivery in a few weeks, I was shocked at how good the 1.6 drove, I drove the 1.8 EX just before and was very tempted but the 1.6 appeared to accelerate more and on paper nearly double MPG was just to tempting! not to mention insurance is cheaper!

Only wish they did the EX-GT in a 1.6

Congrats to your new car

Yes It will feel like it's faster cause of low end torque (pushed back in seat effect or butt dyno) but it's not consistent in the same way as the 1, 8 petrol so in the end the petrol is definitely faster

Congratulations Anthonyn.

Did you come from an 8th gen or what. Would be interesting to hear your views on the comparison. In any case, enjoy and don't forget the pics!

Despite the sales blurb, I would want a GT in the EX 1.6, again Honda will probably only offer it in a new model year or at facelift!

Lease deals on these are very attractive right now. Almost tempted myself.

Congrats, we to chose the 1.6, it truly is a great engine. I think honda are leading the way with diesel power.we get ours next week, it's been like waiting for Christmas as a kid.

The 1.6 diesel is an amazing engine. I was impressed with how lively and refined it was. It averaged 58 mpg in a short town test drive, in similar conditions my Type R I would be getting @ 22 mpg.

So it doesn't sound like a tractor like the 2,2?

It's a diesel - it's best to have realistic expectations.

It's still definitely a diesel, but a very refined one. All the power is where you need it for day to day driving, but once revved it runs out of puff. Obviously not a sports car.

Gotya
I'm not against turbo when it comes to power delivery (wish I had one paired with this 1, 8 engine) but it's the noise that bugs me the most I guess

Mercedes/BMW do/did some very good inline 6 cylinder diesel engines.
Their refinement is significantly better than inline 4 engines.

Great choice.

I just signed up to a PCH lease on a 1.6 with honda finance deal on friday.

Getting an ES in milano on a 3+35 deal. Lease offers in march have been very good.
My car has just been manufactured, due to be delivered to the dealer on tuesday then i should have it delivered before the end of march.

Honda are offering cracking deals on 2.2's as well but all need to be delivered by end of march.

For info if you are leasing the coalition have another con to get more taxes out of us mortals in that i'm told additional taxation on low emission lease cars takes effect on april 1st....if my lease commenced on april 1st instead of march 31st it would cost me another £15/month....crazy..

Thats a little harsh, if you want tractor go try a VAG diesel.

When Honda build a diesel they always do it right, lets just hope that the clutch isn't [email protected]£$e.

Sorry OP enjoy your new car and let us know what you think after you've had it a while.

Had my new 1.6 i-dtec civic for 2 weeks and put on the first 1000 miles of many.

My first civic but after running a Prelude and an Accord for 300K between them I know this will be another good move.

It is getting better every day and the economy is stunning. We all know that mpg claims in the spec can be taken with a huge pinch of salt. But not this time.

Already seeing an average since the last fill up of 67mpg. Frequently reach 72 - 77mpg

Yesterday had a motorway run with some 50 mpg sections during which the average for that journey reached 81mpg with 3 passengers onboard.

My accord 2.2 diesel got better over the first 60K miles.
Just how much better can this new civic get?
