Honda spares sourced from Mars?

My lovely new ES was less than 4 weeks old.... then the power steering packed in! So towed away by the AA back to the Honda garage. Whole EPS unit and wiring harness has to be replaced. Going to take 3 weeks or more because they can't get the wiring harness. Really? Where do they get it from, Mars?
By the time I get the car back Honda will have had it for longer than me!

To be fair to the Honda garage they are paying for my courtesy car for as long as I need it and the salesman is very embarrassed about my car breaking down.

I expect the parts are all being used at the moment to build new cars and not all parts would be the same. I think this situation will get better when the car has been out a while.

Sounds like they might be hedging their bets with the diagnosis of two faulty parts...

I thought the main parts for Hondas come from Belgium

They come from all over. I bought some drop links for my 8G a few weeks ago and they came from Japan.

They told me they have to replace the wiring harness if they replace the EPS unit because of the warranty. So I guess the harness isn't actually faulty. Sounds crazy but that's safety for you

better they replace the two parts at no cost to you than they do one, it doesnt cure it and you have to take it back to get the second part changed.?

My car is off the road awaiting new brake callipers which have to come from Belgium. (Last one melted so car undriveable).

I was told that normally parts for the new cars are kept in the UK (1 day delivery). Parts for older cars come from Belgium (2 days delivery). Unfortunately I have a new car and also am waiting on Belgium.

Of course you have to take into account the 3 days it takes for Honda to agree warrenty claims. They wanted photos of my fault twice before authorising the order. In reality the part has to be replaced so why it cannot be ordered while Honda pontificate I do not know.

I've written to Honda UK asking them to explain why there is such a delay sourcing parts when they have an unhappy customer. Their answer should be interesting! I said I missed my car and would like to have it back

I've had to wait 2+ weeks for a replacement door card in the past, and the delay was explained as having to wait for the part having to come over from Germany.

I've had two door cards replaced, one had the 2+ week wait for, the other was much quicker. In each case, the individual door locking mechanism had broken and as it had locked shut the door cards apparently had to be smashed to gain access to the door lock mechanism.

The part arrived a day early!! Excellent. So I pick up the car this afternoon and when I get home I notice the little knob that adjusts the brightness of the display seems to be missing. Looking inside the hole reveals the knob there but bent to one side. Looks like the incompetent mechanic who put the fascia back didn't do it properly. Now the car has to go back to Ryland Honda in Cardiff again. What appalling service.

try to request a new car mate.

You had one major fault and now you are without the car again.

What compensation are you getting?
Nothing i guess.

It is easy to overlook the brightness / reset stalk when re-installing the cluster hood. If the knob happens to be in the wrong position when the plastic is snapped into place, the stalk will snap in half and the gauge cluster will need to be replaced. I think you are lucky though, it should be still intact. For them it is literally a 5 minute job to remove / replace.

Hmm very strange - the door cards on the 9G are very easy to remove with any damage (once you work out how), it is literally a 5 minute job. Bit of a waste to destroy them - they are not cheap. But if Honda are paying under warranty then that doesn't matter.
