Clutch problem Accord

hi guys new to the site....bought a 2007 accord 2.2 sport ictdi....
have the car couple of weeks after buying private..ive worked out after reading other posts that my clutch is slipping..when put boot down 4th-5th gear revs jump when reach 2k-2.5k revs...

the other problem i cant find answer for is when driving with one hand on gearstick...when in third gear the gear stick vibrates on your hand.it also happens in other gears but mostly third..

anyone know what this is?is it cos the clutch is slipping?will the new clutch fix this?

got quote from local honda dealer 200 +vat for supplie only

its covered 95000 miles.

any help welcome..thanks

ADVISE Needed on Clutch

hi ive bought a 2007 accord 2.2 ictdi sport.95000 mainly motorway miles.out of warranty...

its fine if you go threw the gears without any great excelaration, but once you put your foot down it slips at about 2k revs.

i am going to get the clutch replaced at a local garage...
i was quoted £200 for fitting clutch
£220 +vat for parts.... clutch and release bearing...(local honda dealer)

*** i need to get the car looked at before i buy the clutch or is these the parts i need and does the price seem correct?

will i need the preesure plate as well or is this part of the clutch?

any help thanks

I don't know about the gearstick problem. Just noticed my clutch (2007 2.2 Civic with 65000kms) also slips in 3rd gear and above, starting from 2-2.5k revs.. The revs just shoot up, then fall a bit down again around 3k...
I would wait untill the clutch starts slipping in 2nd though before I would replace it... (unless it's under warranty) You might just get another year / half a year out of that clutch?

Threads merged and moved to Accord section.

Most people here have 8th Generation Euro Civics, not too many Accord owners (yet) I am afraid.

It does sound like a slipping clutch.

Price sounds reasonable (cheap even) to me, I would assume the garage quotes everything needed for a clutch replacement.

My 2.0 petrol Accord's gear stick vibrates just like you said and it is most noticeable in third gear. This is not an issue; just a characteristic - don't worry about it.

The clutch slipping sounds like the same problem on all i-CTDi Honda vehicles and is to do with the DMF. Simply replacing the clutch plate will only fix the issue for a few thousand miles.

I did read Honda were putting the clutch slipping down to the cruise control switch on the clutch pedal having poor adjustment - adjusting the switch can cure the problem.

See these threads:

Slipping clutch - Civinfo Wiki
http://www.civinfo.com/forum/engines...ster-here.html

I would take the car to the dealer and demonstrate the problem you are having.

Hope this helps.

Poor quality pressure plate is the issue on civics the self adjuster is rubbish mine slipped nothing wrong with the friction plate pressure plate goosed replaced with a kevlar clutch of the same design which is now slipping. Im looking at a total custom job to remove the dmf and adjuster keep your eyes open for the outcome.....

It does sound like a slipping clutch and on the Accord it tends to be linked to cruise control switch. I would stick with Honda for a replacement as they do have a special tool to ensure everything is correct, look here to see what a job it is:
REVIEW - Clutch Install, Accord i-CTDI - TypeAccord
It is also under the Honda Happiness scheme so has a fixed price.

Yeah Honda happiness scheme fixed price for all Honda clutches. However as the dealers apparently have overstocked loads of dmfs they might try and influence you into needing one of those too at £1k on it's own. But Honda themselves Is def the way to go with the clutch fix. Can supply more info on dmf though if you like. Very interested in this cruise control theory though? Are you saying that the use of cruise control is one of the key contributors tp clutch failure?

It's a slipping clutch mate and possibly slightly warped DMF causing the vibration. The 7th gen diesel also has known problems with failing inner driveshafts - normally the n/s that goes first.. do you feel a wobble on hard acceleration?
