Bemused by the variation in quotes

I am quite amazed at the big differences I have been getting in quotes for a standard FN2. Previous cars including my EP3 from a few years ago have always been pretty consistent in the quotes I get (I am knocking on a bit). Ignoring the ones on some websites that come up at 10 grand , my quotes have ranged from around 225 to 565. Why the variation?

different underwriting policies, some don't fully understand the different vehicles and come up with odd quotes, I was also told some are really not to interested in certain cars so will deliberately quote high. But in the main it is down to the the underwriting policy of the individual insurers, how they rate certain areas, whether a driveway as opposed to a garage makes a difference etc. Same with any policy, my home policy on 100% like for like varied from under 100 to over 500 with the same terms on each policy !!!

I've now had 3 quotes from specialist insurers and for my unmodded fn2, they were 335, 389 and 465! I am old, clean licence etc and live in a good post code. Cheapest mainstream insurer is 177. What gives? Some of you on here have a long list of mods and say you have just renewed for 300 with one of the specialists. Confused.
