FRS - possibly a stpid question

Hi everyone!

as in the title, this might be a stupid question.
But i was wondering about insurance and a FRS.

Do you need to declare a FRS to insurance? I know it is techinally a modification but when i was looking at quotes for insurace it wasnt in the modification options, i could only find lowwering options with regards to suspension etc.

am i just being/dimm not looking properly or is it something the insurance companies arnt aware of/bothered by?

You need to ask your insurer, the times Ive done it before they're pretty cool about it so no increase so long as you're not going lower.

Although not decaring it could invalidate your insurance. Its not worth running the risk for something they prob wont charge you for.

You will always need to declare any modifications for your insurer if you want to stay fully comp i.e. if you have a claim and you don't disclose modifications your claims may be repudiated.

if you're implying what i think you are then that was the initial reason for my uncertainty about it!

though i guess at the end of the day its best to tell the insurance company and not have needed to, rather than not tell them when i really should have and face potential problems were the worst to happen.

Fair point...just seems another excuse for a 50 admin charge to me.
Fail to see how they could worm out of paying you for having your tracking set properly though.

well thats the main reason im asking really, i've not bought the car and obviously the insurance policy yet, so im trying to price up insuring it from the word go including the mods i plan on doing for the rest of the year.

Initially i would have thought FRS wouldnt be something to specifically declare, but maybe thats just wishfull thinking as the other guys have pointed out

+1 Don't see why adjusting the camber bolts etc need to be declared... How would they find out anyway ??

What about guys who fit the type R kits to non-type R's, I would just think in an event of a claim insurance would replace with standard parts if not declared. Or am i wrong ??

Yes, declare all mods no matter how insignificant they may seem.

They are always trying to worm there way out of paying out, so why give them another excuse?

I wouldn't be bothering to declare it, don't see how it could have any bearing on a policy whatsoever, apart from to add a nice new admin charge for the insurers.

....very helpfull. Not too sure who that's aimed at but, Are you saying in your opinion its not something that needs to be declared?

I'm new to all this kind of stuff and I'm only asking so when I get my new car I can be confident it's all above board and I won't have any issues with insurance. If trying to be as best informed as possible, and asking people who are more knowledgeable/have more experience in this area for advice is laughable, then go ahead.

Just declare it, its a modification. Also its a mod that aids cornering and allows you to go faster around corners, possibly leading to a crash. It also makes your wheels look different as in the camber is more aggresive which makes the car look more attractive. Both of which are factors which an insurance company should know about. Its always better to declare everything even down to your fluffy dice..

I disagree that it needs to be declared -after all when I change tyres I don't notify my insurer and you can be damned sure that what I've got now are better than the ones I had before in terms of "aiding cornering"!

Tyres you can and should change without notification, suspension changes should always be noted. Youre changing the standard suspension geometry settings to make your car better. Its the same as putting an exhaust on to make it go faster. The fast that its hidden away inside the car makes no difference.

No but FRS (Fast Road Setup's) yes

If you change the geometry to go back to the Honda standard settings as cars come out of the factory often wrong then that shouldn't be an issue for the insurers as Honda haven't designed the cars to be adjustable...
