Confusion about quotes and no claims

So I have nearly built up a years no claims on my type S ( 1 year NCB will be in November) when renewal is due, but ive been offered an interesting deal on a type R that im tempted to take.

Will i have to ring up my current insurer (elephant) then swap the type S to R untill november and probably pay quite a bit as currently havent got any NCB - the S is my first official car, then look for a new quote on the R in november, or can i insure the type R with whoever then transfer the NCB in november even if i sell my S

This insurance lark is confusing me as i have never really done it before so could people offer some advice and opinions?
