speed awareness course

I've just been on a speed awareness course ( first time speeding in 9 years of driving )and it seems some insurance companies are now putting up premiums if you've been on one. I spoke to the guys who run the course who said the information is confidential and the only parties who hold the information is them and the police so the insurance company would have no way of finding out unless the broke confidentiality laws. I wonder how things would progress in the future.

The police like these speed awareness course's as they get a small cut of the money, this is why the threshold has been increased in recent years however if you pay the fine and take the points the money goes to central government and then back to local councils more or less.

Friend of mine got caught speeding and was told he had to attend one of these courses. So about a week or so later he got pulled over for speeding again, when the police asked him where he was heading in such a hurry he started to laugh......he was on his way to the speed awareness course lol ......Police didn't see the funny side so he ended up with more points, resulting in a ban.

If you don't own up and they find out in the future they may decide to withdraw your insurance.

If that happens then the others will likely follow suit and your up the creek.

Best policy is to tell them all (or don't speed/get caught)

You DON'T need to inform your insurers. It is an awareness course, no fixed penalty or endorsement/points.

I deal with insurers on a daily basis, more household stuff than anything. I've never come across a motor insurer asking about speed awareness course. But I suppose if they do ask then you have a duty to tell them. However, I find it odd that they would ask as there is no way of them finding out about the course. It would never come up if you made a subsequent claim etc.

if one does it, gteed most of the rest of the money grabbing, banker based attitude bunch will follow suit. wont be happy until it all unravels.

I genuinely look forward to the day one of the insurance 'kings' goes belly up like some of these banks.

Really? to be given the option of the course you need to be free of previous speeding convictions so being caught twice would only result in 6 points which doesn't equal a ban. unless they were going over 96mph.

Unless he had points for other convictions perhaps?

Which, judging by his alleged response at being stopped the second time, seems more than likely.

If it's impossible for them to find out you have been on a speed awareness course you would be a fool to divulge such information no ??

As far as i'm aware it's not requested on the online application for Admiral so why declare it?
