hi all,newbie calling

hi guys

straight to the point,we are looking at getting an 07 to 09 plate civic, not sure if petrol or diesel would be best for us,so I decided to ask the experts

we looked at a 57 plate 1.8vtec ex in Milano yesterday(gen 7 ?) 82k on the clock and the stone chips to back it up

had all the bells and whistles we could wish for, leather, panoramic roof nav, etc, drove well and is up at £6000,dealer will throw in a 2 year rac gold warrenty for the asking price.

may I ask a few questions as we know naff all about civics(or Honda come to that)
I drive a diesel c5 estate company car and having driven diesels for 15 years like the way a diesel drives.....but as a second car(well it would be 3rd after the 9-3 convertible) we would not be doing a big mileage(I would guess 3k or less)
I have looked the diesel engine civics up and it seems the 7th gen diesel civic was not fitted with a dpf

if that's the case, would the diesel civic be happy doing low miles(with a few 20 mile runs to grandkids etc)

what are the things to look for when viewing a civic.

all comments/advice welcomed

Welcome mate.

It's 8th Gen
If you just do the low miles I think it's best for you to have petrol. If it's a diesel look out for clutch slip, rattles! I have been driving 2.2 diesel for a while and it's brilliant and no fault at all so far, (touch wood).

+1

Have a search on here theres numerous threads about clutch slipping etc. I dont do that many miles considering but I will have to start travelling to leeds quite often soon from Newcastle so i'm glad I've got my 2.2

Good car all rounder, pulls like a train in every gear and moves when you need her to move. I havent had any issues with mine yet touch wood!

Well theres a good start
8th gen

Think the dealer selling the one i looked at might need to join this forum

The petrol v diesel is a tricky one as there appeares to be no performance gain to be had from the 1.8vtec over the diesel(and at 48 i dont think the type R is going to suit or needs)

I dont mind paying the extra buying and fueling a diesel, just dont want things to soot up and break as a result of a low useage?..

Have to say guys you info pages are fantastic,a credit to the forum and its members.

I just hope the seller of the next civic we view understands when i pull off the windscreen seal to check for micro blisters.

In all honesty its nice to find out about potential pit falls before diving in.

Seems loads out there at around 80 to 120 k miles, which as a buyer gives me confidance.,our budget is around 9k .
Thanks for the welcome and please keep opening my eyes on these little rocket ships as my wife has her heart set on one.
