New Civic owner - South Yorkshire

Hi all,

I have been lurking on here for a while as I have been looking for a replacement for my '57 Vauxhall Astra 1.6T SRi :

Its been a good car. I have owned it for over three and a half years, which is the longest I have ever owned a car. I commute 50 miles a day for work so need something cheaper to run.

I decided to go for a Honda Civic after researching on the internet extensively.
I just put a deposit down on a '57 Honda Civic 2.2 i-CTDi EX 5dr in Black.

It does have high mileage - 101,000 and i'm a little worried about the clutch/DMF failing, battery draining, leaking into the boot or sunroof blinds/mirrors not working after reading some horror stories.
But I decided that if you research ANY car on the internet, you will find horror stories.

The Civic I have found has high spec (all the usual EX spec extras) and seems mechanically ok. I'm taking out a 12 month warranty just in case.

I did notice a Civinfo sticker in the back window, so I wonder if the previous owner is on here? I'm a bit worried in case they are and they tell me it had loads of problems...

Anyway, I pick the new car up on Saturday 18th, I can't wait! Thanks for reading!

welcome pal, i recently went the 2.2 but SE with no fogs or satnav/panoramic roof. I'm from Chesterfield so again pretty local mine has covered 77k and the clutch has just started slipping in 3rd and 4th when asking for power from low revs, driven normally it doesnt slip but you will notice it pretty easy when the clutch starts to go so if you haven't yet then you dont need to worry yet loads of good info on here about the replacement of the clutch and dmf worries so feel reassured that you've come to the right place mate!

I have a 2.2 ES, PradaFN2 can I ask a basic question, how do you tell when the clutch is slipping? No probs I know of yet (touch wood). Mine has done circa 80k now and let's hope going strong

When you give the pedal a good press the rev counter will rush up with no pull mate, basically as if you were revving the car in neutral, at the moment its only happening when i ask for power quickly from revs.

I see. Thanks. Next stupid question, why does it do this? Wear and tear of clutch? I'm just looking for an answer in layman's terms as am no motor techie (especially with Diesels ). Thanks again.
