Hello all!
Im on the cusp of getting myself a lovely new style Civic. I was searching for an owners club for weeks and just happened to stumble across this accidentally. And bloody glad I am too! I don't think I could ever be comfortable owning a car without a community of support around too. Anyway, I digress....
I'm 26 and live in Billingshurst, West Sussex..... Erm.... Hobbies, I fly aircraft during my spare time, as well as motorcycling, running, tweaking my Honda CRX track toy, and a few other less significant pastimes.
Whilst I'm still looking for my dream car, I have a question:
What kind of price range would you expect a '06 2.2 CDTi ES in Alabaster Silver to go for at a dealer, with 55k on the clock? Also, would you guys consider this mileage worthy of caution? (I'm thinking diesel + the fact it is one of the best engines ever made makes 55k not a problem)
Anything else you want to know, just ask away!
I wish you luck in finding your new car. I think mileage has to be taken into consideration at some point but maybe not a two year old car. I think it's essentially what you are happy with that is the most important.
Any questions do ask but if you have the time do take a tour through the wiki section which holds a lot of information
Hello all, and thank you for the welcome! Happyman - Czesc!*
I am aware that 55k is quite a high mileage, however, I might be able to get my hands on quite a nice car within a realistic price range. Given the model is only 2 yrs old anyway, the best source of advice is you guys (as the dealers wouldn't really know, even if they would say be honest!).
I'd be going in at under 9k I think. I saw that Parker's showed £9.2k for a poor quality private sale, so under 9k seems like a good area to aim at. The biggest obstacle now is waiting for the bank to confirm my loan... then I will buy my stickers and become a fully fledged member!
*My girlfriend is Polish so I spend a LOT of my spare time in Krakøw
Edit: I made sure that I took out a brand new demo car just after to compare them, and yes, she seems well cared for. That amount of miles in a 2yr car must be mostly motorway, or at least a large proportion, so I'm not too stressed about it. In fact, I'd be more concerned about a Type R with less miles!
Keep your fingers crossed for me!!
As for the wiki... I've been reading that for a few days now. It's superb and exactly what I was hoping I'd find! Robbieee - Crawley?: Never mind... I lived there too for a short while.
Now that makes 2 of us! As for my Polish being better... that I doubt! Maybe you can give me some tips on how to remember all the irregularities?! Whereabouts are you then? Asia's family live near Bielsko in the South. It's great as it provides perfect mountain access, plus superb food and copious amounts of great beer (Zywiec, of course!!).
I like Zywiec ( but it helps my bowel movements a little too much for some reason ) I also like Lech, Okocim and others. Although Vodka is becoming a part of my drinking more and more .
I live in the city Wroclaw which is about 260km away from you!
Bad things about this garage. Plenty of others in West Sussex.
Not just my view, either, I learned from other members on this forum that it is not a typical, excellent Honda dealer but a typical bad "take-their-money-now-@$%&-off" dealer.
Cheers Randomjointer. I am generally going through 'Gatwick' (Crawley - funny how they use Gatwick to make it sound more 'executive' ) or Worthing. I will avoid them like the plague, in this case!! Thanks for the heads up!!
If you are near Worthing, Honda Littlehampton are without doubt the best garage I've been to in 30+ years of motoring. Not expensive either and open to negotiation over things. Honda Brighton run a close second best.
I'm using Southern Counties as I work at Gatwick. They seem OK, although weren't very flexible with my [admittedly poor ] bartering attempts. The salesman was very honest about things, which I found pleasing. They have recently gone from being an independant family-run place to part of the national chain. The good thing is that this has dropped a load of used prices by a lot, which has enabled me to pick up a blinding offer on my ES... [smilie=cool.gif]
Go for the second hand one if the new motor is priced too high.
I would think that all the currents Civics, inc most of the diesels, would have had all the nasty bits tweaked out of them by now, and if not you can check with the stealer at sale time.
Got to be Milano don't forget!
"I feel like a million at the moment. ......one at a time tho'!"
Good news chaps, I've paid for my little lady and will collect her on Wednesday when I'm back in the country. (Happyman, if you're near Krakow on Monday or Tuesday and fancy a beer, let me know )
She is a '06 Alabaster Silver 2.2 CDTi ES. She has an impressive 56k on the clock but given it's a diesel and supposedly one of the best engines ever built, I'm sure she's barely even run in yet! I drove her twice (I made sure one of the drives was from a cold start) before commiting and even had a comparison run in a brand new demo car. The only difference I found was the tightness of the clutch. I was pretty happy with that! It had a full 55k service yesterday and I managed to negotiate them into replacing the well worn front brakes before I collect her.
To while away the lloooooooonnggggg weekend and monday, and Tuesday.... you could study the posts on cleaning/waxing etc, and spend a pleasant few hours buying everything!! - that'll take care of 1/2 a day.... [smilie=cheeky-grin: [smilie=cheeky-grin: - then you could order your sticker.... and spend the rest of the time on this splendid site.

Haha! Cheers for the heads up! Unfortunately, I have spent the last few weeks reading up about the car so that may not take so much time up... Luckily I'm in Poland until Tuesday visiting my girlfriend, so that will take my mind off it a little. The only problem will be the fact that she is just as excited as I am!
As for the sticker, I was at work earlier so I couldn't get it ordered. I'm going to do it right away now!
Although she is just standard at the moment, I guess I should post a picture for you all. Here you go:
When I pick her up on Wednesday, provided the weather is good, I'll take her out for a decent photo shoot and get some slightly more interesting pictures.
I think I would like to get a better looking Honda front bumper at some point (and eventually skirts and rear), colour-coding and some nicer standard alloys. I don't want to chav her up but make her look a little more sleek, hence keeping things to standard Honda issue. Silver looks ace even with just an image pack colour coded, so that is probably what I will aim for.
Any recommendations?
Thanks R-2. Given her mileage, she is in really good condition. Once the bank account has settled down again, I'll start hunting for some secondhand 17s and some extra bodywork.
Indeed, and yours in one of my inspirations at the moment!
