Breaking in my new Type S

Hello everyone,

I picked up my 6 month old type S Gt last week and apart from yesterday morning, all is well and big smiles for my first ownership of a Honda and an oil burner to boot! Generally very pleased so far, but in the cold snap yesterday, I had a bit of a struggle getting the thing started. It took about 6 or 7 attempts to start it, (yes I did wait for the glow plugs to go out etc.) and when it did fire, it idled for 3 or 4 seconds and died. Eventually got it going though, and its been fine evr since. Have booked it back into the dealership next week, they are going to give it a quick once over. Anyone else encountered this problem

Bit sweeping JP!! I've never bought new, and not had probs - mind you I've bought from the manufacturer approved used car pool.

Is yours a Honda approved car from a dealer Fairground42? If so they have a swap the car if you don't like it policy. Quote:
'A hassle-free Honda promise. Buy one of our approved used cars and you've got 30 days or 1000 miles (whatever you arrive at first) to change your mind. Don't like it? We'll exchange it for one of equal or greater value with a cash adjustment if needed.'

That's if you think the fault is too worrisome of course. I've not heard that problem before, not had any probs with my 2.2 diesel - great motor.

Regards,
Morris Minor

The car was indeed bought from a Honda approved dealer, and was previously used as a demonstration vehicle, so if it is a ringer then there are a few questions to be answered!! I am very happy with the car, and maybe it was just a one-off thing yesterday. I will find out soon enough.

I wouldn't worry, i bought mine at six months old as a pre-reg from Johnsons in Milton Keynes, had it six months, done 8500 miles and no problems. You have got two half years warranty so any problem will be covered.

There is one thing for sure you will have made a goo savings on buying new!!!

Welcome to Civinfo

Nice car by the way. Maybe it was just reluctant to start yesterday because it was cold and wanted to stay in bed

Have you posted any photo's of your new toy?

That's just what I did - was a demonstrator with 8.5k miles on the clock. Surprisingly, the wheels were perfect, no kerbing or marks at all!

Maybe it was

just stood for a bit before you bought it.........less than charged battery or a bit of damp in the electrics?
Go out and give it a good caning..if there are problems, this will show 'em up.
If not, it'll charge your battery

You do get these one off problems from time to time, lets hope that's the end of it.
