Hello Hello Hello

Hello, found this forum via google as i'm looking for a new car. I have whittled down a few cars and the Civic is one of them. I'd say i'm 95% likely to get one though possibly nearly new. This forum has been great. I've found so much info on here and not only that, the people seem great. I've only so far searched and read threads but hope that soon i'll be able to make a post about "my own" civic

I'm looking for a 1.4 [new] but i'm put off by the sluggishness and the non twin exhaust so i'm also considering the 1.8 petrol. But being a girl and i dont do many motorway driving, i dont think i really need a 1.8. But its not like i'm going to be changing cars frequently so i'm also thinking about the future too. Its a shame that they didnt have more engine choices. I spoke to a colleague who had to get a diesel but didnt want the 2.2 diesel civic [possibly too big] and he ended up getting a Golf. But i really like the civic. I need to test drive both engines though. From this site, i've found out that they are making a new 1.4 vtec but i cant wait next year lol...too impatient! Decisions decisions lol.

The 1.8, 2.2 and the CTR all have twin exhaust pipes.

As you say though, the triangles are just trims set in the bumper and not really part of the exhaust system.

A warm welcome to Civinfo

Great to have you around and hopefully we can help you make a decision

Can't you get the 'image pack' that adds the triangle exhausts and stuff to the 1.8? I am not sure but I thought there was something you could add to make it more like the 1.8 and 2.2.

Not sure how much it would cost to add the triangle exhaust but it's well worth it

thanks for the responses guys

I havent test driven any yet mainly because they didn't have any 1.4's to test drive and apparently neither at any of their other branches! I want to test both the 1.4 and 1.8. Had a good look at a 1.4 inside the showroom and the salesman pointed out the drivers side exhaust which had a plastic bit on it that put me off. It's just for show really. Didn't know you could add the extra exhaust, many thanks for the links

I'm really struggling whether to get a 1.4 or 1.8 purely due to running costs and what i need and what i want....wheelchair i may just start bugging you lol.

thanks for the replies guys...appreciated

No problem, ask away!

Actually I could only test the 1.8, but I had drove a 1.4 a year or so earlier for a day.

I get around 48mpg average over a tank of fuel, not bad eh?

wheelchair, may i ask what car you drove before your 1.4 civic?

and what made you chose the 1.4 over the 1.8?

and what is it like driving the 1.4 on motorways or above 50mph?

[sorry, i promise i wont bug you that much]

on a side note, is there anyway to search for "1.4" only on here? Apart from the specific user reviews in the review section, i want to read more baout users with 1.4 but without much luck

thanks

Before my 1.4 Civic I drove a previous gen 2005 1.4 Civic!

Before that my last two cars, a Mondeo and C-Max were both 1.8's.

I chose the 1.4 as I wanted lower fuel bills and I've always been able to get plenty of oomph from smaller engines anyway. One of my previous cars many years ago was a 954i Citroen AX, and I could bomb along in it fine. You just have to learn how to get the most performance from a small engine, you have to get the gearchanges just right.

You will find the 1.4 Civic no trouble on motorways, it keeps up with the traffic no trouble and I have no problem overtaking either. Its not at all tiring to drive, even with my disabilities I can drive for hours in comfort. The i-Shift makes the 1.4 quite a bit quicker than the manual version though. I think it feels more like a 1.6 litre engine.

As for searching for 1.4, you'll probably have to go through the user reviews manually, a pain I know.

As for you asking questions, its no bother at all, its what we're all here for. Just ask away, no matter how trivial the question, I'll try to help if I can.
