Upgrading stock speakers, will Focal PS 165 fit?

Hi, I'm considering an upgrade of the stock speakers in my 2008 2.2 CDTi, and possibly a 2 DIN upgrade (Pioneer AVH-X3500DAB).
Has anyone done this upgrade? I'm worried that the X3500 might not fit, as it's quite deep. And will the Focal PS 165 fit?

Any suggestions are welcome

From experience the 2din is the best audio upgrade you can make just to all the processing of the audio etc. I don't have custom speakers yet but the sound deadening is also meant to be a massive bonus so if you do want crisp sound I would invest in that also !

The woofers look like they will fit but you will need a spacer ring. Not sure about the tweeters and whether they come out of that housing and fit where the Honda one's are.

Thank you for the feedback. It seems like the tweeters can be installed without the enclosure, and they measure 42,6 mm in diameter (12,1 or 17,9 mm height, depending on where you measure). Regarding the double DIN, did you use the Connects2 CT23HD11(L) fascia? The price for that here in Norway is quite steep (around 200), so I wonder if there's more in the package than just the fascia.

Here you go:

C2 Civic Full Kit LDH

The Pioneer you mention above is not as deep as mine so will definitely fit.

Thanks for helping! Even with shipping to Norway and the Pioneer patch lead, it's a lot cheaper than buying from a Norwegian retailer... Looks like I have a solution for my car now, so thank you both for helping

from a personal point of view id change only the head unit for now as the marginal improvement over swapping the stock speakers with some custom ones is nothing compared to vast difference that swapping the head unit will make.

Stock head unit 3
aftermarket HU 4.5
Speakers change 5.5
Amped speakers 8
Sound deadening/diffuser 9
add a sub 10

I have had all of the above, imo, I think that how the SQ scales up as you add each component to the last

I disagree with the above (my opinion of course). The HU change was a 500% improvement, the speaker change and sound deadening were small, subtle changes. If you like your neighbours to know your coming home 5 minutes before you arrive, then go for an additional amplifier. The output from my Pioneer is much louder than stock and far more than my poor ears can cope with.

Subwoofer(s) are very worthwhile after a HU change, my Porsche has subs in the doors as standard and even though it has the same Pioneer HU as the Civic, I do prefer the sound in the Porsche.

Hi bud,

The clarity that a AMP brings to the table is night and day. Its not about having your neighbours hear you when you are 5 mins away, a cheap Halfords sub will do that.

Its about the clarity that an AMP brings even at low volumes, and hearing "sounds" in the soundtrack you have not heard before.

I disagree with the 500% improvement that HU brings re SQ. The big game changer re aftermarket HU is that it brings a lot more functionality, for me this was Bluetooth, USB, SD, NAV, rear camera by your good self Discus
but SQ no way.

This is the amp I have:

Alpine - PDX Amplifiers - PDX-5

Re Porsche, yeah I think it would be better due to the smaller volume of space the speakers need to fill.

indeed Discuss - new head unit made a massive change as did adding a sub and amp, (it sounds top drawer now) but changing all 4 speakers for 2 decent pairs of Hertz made hardly any difference at all, it was barely noticeable.

My last install in EP3 by a respective specialist who has done loads of Type Rs. He recommended all the products in my last and current upgrade.

Doors panels removed, as you can see stock insulation appears quite bare to say the least.

Now with 6 sheets of sound deadening on each door panel

To maintains stealth look, amp and focal bus 25 under seats

[color=#8040BF]
Cabling tucked away nicley by Dalco

Door panel now ready to accomodate Apline speakers

Speakers with MDF spacers and diffusers

Crossover mounted on door panel

Will get tweeter pics up in the next couple of day.
SOund system is 10 times better and the underseat sub adds the little warmth to the sound, so I highly recommended the additional expense. IMO even with amped front components - this is no substitute for the lower sounds. ie I turned the Focal Bus 25 right down and turned up the volume of HU to see what bass would kick out of the amped speakers. IMO though the sound clarity was crystal clear - there was still not enough bass...... IMO I would have regretted not adding the sub in.
Tweeters make a big difference in respect of the higher sounds, amp makes a huge!!!! difference in respect of clarity of sound.
Sound deadening helps keeps all the sound in my car rather than filter out..... Door just now seems so much more solid. A mod in its own right IMO.
I am sure the other mods such as Speaker cabling, diffusers , RCA power is all adding the sound quality in its own right.
The moisture guard is purley to stop it getting damp from rain/or when washing the car and the water creeps in.
Dalco showed me the stock speaker and it looked pretty 'lame' to say the least. (I am sure people have already posted various threads on this) Additionally the speaker was little damp, so therefore the mositure guard purley prevents this. Quite honestly I was not going to skimp on 15 at this stage.
Overall - Loving the upgrade.

We will just agree to disagree, no right answer - just opinions about what we want and were willing to do to get there. I think the clarity on my system came from the new speakers, the OEM ones were very poor in this respect.

Most of the time I turn down the stereo and listen to the fab sounding engine when having fun anyway. The howl from the Boxster's exhaust is a sound track in itself, must get a better one for the Civic.

Most of us have the Brodit mount near the gear stick. The cable is out the way there.
