Installing a Double Din Stereo on Civic 1.4 5drs RHD

All,

I just bought a new Honda Civic 56 (06) 1.4 5doors, I know this is an old car but i'm so happy with it as it is my first car! and I think i have made the right choice!

I bought an fm transmitter to transmit from my iPhone to the stereo but its not clear at all.

I was just wondering what is the best and the cheapest option for me to transmit audio and calls from my iPhone to the stereo and how much would a decent double din stereo cost in total with the facia and everything.

something like this: http://www.civinfo.com/forum/ipods-m...-din-done.html.

I did some research and most people said that the main screen might not work if you don't buy the right stereo and the steering control might not work as well, Can you please help me with this.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you all in advance

If you are just wanting to connect your iPod/MP3 player/USB to the car then maybe an XCar Link

If you want to install a new headunit you will need the fascia kit, such as this. Then a headunit of your choosing, depending on how much you want to spend, and what your needs are. The original screen will still function properly, and steering wheel controls should function with the new headunit if it is compatible.

I'd recommend a Parrot kit, music, sat nav, calls all through the speakers.. not as good as a double din but a great piece of kit!

Both, thanks for your reply. I am thinking of buying this head unit ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111014664855 ) with the facia above. will the steering wheel remote work on this head unit?

If not, Which head unit would you recommend that people you know have tried on a Civic and worked for them.

And if there is a manual to install.

Thank you.

Pretty sure that will work with steering wheel controls, as long as you can set what each button does, which from their pictures looks to be the case, then the Connects2 kit will convert the signal to a suitable one for the headunit.

One thing to note, as I discovered Saturday, is that there appears to be two "standard" sizes of headunits, that listing states the width is 176mm, which is a couple mm too wide for the black surround included with the Connects2 kit.

I think the only option is to file a bit off each side of the surround. I'll be doing this shortly unless I find a better solution.

Thanks, Which stereo have you got in your car?

By the way, I have spoken to Honda today and they said that replacing the stereo would not effect the warranty but if anything happened while changing the stereo such as (wiring issues, electrical shortage) then it will not be covered.

Mine's not installed yet, hopefully going to get it done next weekend, but really I am waiting on some bits from Hong Kong to arrive otherwise I will have to take it out again.

The one I purchased is an Android 4.1 unit, no link online to it yet, but you can see a picture in my thread here.

I got it from a supplier in Hong Kong, it should be available to purchase in the next few weeks from eBay/Aliexpress.

The cost was around 380 plus import tax.

I also chose to get a USB hub, reversing camera, and 3G dongle for it. As standard it comes with a WiFi dongle. These are what I am waiting for to arrive. The headunit was sent via DHL so took just 3 days.

I'm just reading and watching reviews about it! WOW!

Is it 380 with the reversing camera?

Impossible, no one has it yet

Unless you are watching the test unit?

Excluding reversing camera, just the headunit and WiFi dongle.
