Newbie to Double Dins

Hi Guys, just looking for a bit of info on the Double Dins that seem very popular here.

I've always envied the Type S GT-T which has the built-in sat nav, so Im thinking installing a double din would be perfect for me.

What I want to know is how does an ipod connect to it? Is it through an aux port that I just connect the ipod with a 3.5mm lead or is it like the xcarlink and a lead from the back of the head unit has to be fed through to the centre cubby hole.

Also, would these have free lifetime updates on the maps for the sat navs?

Any info as always greatly appreciated.

What make double dins have you looked at? The Pioneer's for example use a video cable so you can use apps off your phone as well as it's GPS etc.

Good luck with the search for free map updates.

Oh I'd have no interest in using apps on a phone on the double din (phone is used for calls n texts only)- I just want to hook up my ipod to it.

Do you have the sat nav that has a little screen or do you have factory fitted double din?
