Question Facia fit & cage questions installing a singe din unit

Hi Everyone,

Its newb time! This has probably been covered before but after a week of searching I'm still coming up at a loss....

I bought an Autoleads Facia with connect 2 kit and today got everything in place to fit.

After using the excellent guides here I got all the panels off I needed to wired up all the cables to the review mirror for DAb antenna and mic for the etc.

Then I came to put the unit in its self. I attached the 2 black plates to the 3 screws on either side of the facia and slid the radio into place ready to screw in and none of the holes lined up with the cage..

I found this a touch odd and did a bit more searching but couldn't spot any clear pics of what I was looking for. I then realised that 2 of the holes would line up with the unit its self so figured quid in (I had been at it for 3 hours in the cold by this point) screwed them in and the radio stayed mounted.

I start pushing the unit in and the left hand side of the facia wouldn't sit flush.... Tried jiggling it around a bit to no avail. Then I spotted that the left hand panels 3 screw's stick out to far and are stopping it from sitting flush. (the bottom of said plate was also catching on part of the dash next to a clip location the old radio had used. I may have cut the plate to get around this) They sit to far out of the inside dash mounts.

I then needed to get out and about in the car as I was already an hour late so left the facia there lose on the left hand side.

Am I going mad or have I missed something really obvious?

Attached is the offending plates that foul at the bottom on the left hand side.

I'll look at taking it apart again next weekend to try and figure it out. All in all it was most frustrating.

On the plus side I love the new unit and it's enabled me to mount my tablet as I wanted. Plus I got the Parrot CK3100 out as I wont need it with my HU so I can sell that! Once I've got pics I'll put in in the for sale section if anyone is interested.

You use the black plates or the cage, not both.
Bottom left of your dash needs cutting back to get it to fit properly.

You didn't make mistakes, you learnt as you went.

I fitted mine a week or 2 back and wasn't impressed with the lack of instructions that came with the facia / wiring kit, I only learnt that you needed a smaller cage than is supplied with standard head-units by accident.
