2009 Autoexpress H7 headlight bulb review

Autoexpress have just done another test of H7 headlight bulbs.

Bulbs - We test 30 | Products | Auto Express

Top of the test is (again) the Philips X-Treme bulb. Just fitted some myself, and they are good.

Don't forget, the forum has a discount at Autobulbs.

The test ethos is:

Quote:
At the heart of this test is the amount of light a bulb puts on the road. So, we adjusted each product in a BMW 1-Series headlamp until the glare was within legal limits. We then measured the light at 50 metres on the kerb and in the centre of the road, plus at 75 metres.

To get our beam rating, we used an industry formula, adding the 50-metre readings and doubling the 75-metre figure where light is needed most. We took an average from our two bulbs; the higher the rating the better.

Despite what it states, I still think that My Ring Xenon Max +100% bulbs out perform the Philips X-treme ones.
It could be down to reflector shape...?

This is the second civic i've fitted philips x-tremes to, and being honest I think they give off more light than my previous civic with 6000k HID's. It may be down to the reflector design in this model, but on '0' setting there seems to be a much longer beam of light compared to the EP civic

I've had trouble finding much information about the Night Guide DL lights - how is the color and brightness? The phillips site boasts of putting three different zones of color which is...unique atleast.

What I read makes them seem quite interesting, but haven't found any real world tests or reviews.

Cheers,
Matthew

did not find one detailed as well, but bought the bulbs and must say it makes difference-bright and long going light. Better I would say only Philips Xtreem, but with NG DL you have three color that gives your car some mistery appearance as well as, longer life, better price, and most of all better vision.

I have installed on my Civic the x-treme power bulbs in my opinion its the best conventional bulbs that i have seen so far the light is great whatever the weather conditions and the light disperson to the sides is amazing, its kind of like the afl headlights, it illuminates when you turn the car to both sides, so if you want a conventional bulb choose this one

Was about to order these this morning, and noticed on the Powerbulbs website there is a new bulb due to be released in October - Extreme Vision H7. Did a quick search but couldnt find out much about them. At 47 squid theyd better be something special though!
