Hello all, Livvy pointed me in this direction as I'm looking to upgrade my little C2 to something more practical and the 8th Gen Civic came up as one of my options (Amongst the Leon, Ibiza, Golf and 1 Series).

Always loved the Civics because they reminded me of a spaceship! Now that I'm older and a little wiser, I like the practicality of the Civic and someone at work showed me the size of the boot and interior which was impressive - not to mention the dash which looks like a pilots cockpit!

Looking to get a 5dr 2.2 CDTI in probably the Ci-T trim level or something similar. What I would like to know is if the mpg is anything like the "book" value of 53?

This forum has already answered my questions about whether or not I can put in my aftermarket audio (yes with a bit of trickery!) and servicing costs (£200-£400 depending on dealer and service) and also the possibility of a remap in the future. Does anyone know if all the Civics have the double sun roof or is that model dependant?

I guess my main concern is living with the poor view through the rear view window - how bad is it really? And if there are any common faults or issues with the cars. Any thoughts would be most appreciated on the car in general and the points made :)

Its a panoramic sun roof depending on the model, the rear view window is easy after a week or 2 once you've adjusted to it then it doesn't bother you. As I drive Trucks I use wing mirrors all the time when reversing so I'm used to it. As for bad points I'll leave that to the guys that own the diesel version, they'd be better for telling you. ;-)

hi and welcome.

The rear view is bad but not as much as its made out to be as the wing mirrors are big you can add parking sensors to the rear if worried but imo ive been ok with the split across the boot helps block out headlights from behind at night:)

Hi and welcome. I drive my 2.2 mixed between enthusiastically and economically dependant on who is in the car with me (wife = economically) and I get 50 mpg almost exactly. The panoramic roof is standard on an ES model not the SE. The rear view is perfectly fine after a few days as mentioned above and the blocked bit of the rear window is perfect for blocking out headlights which is a bonus.

Thanks all - I had a quick search on the forums last night and it seems as though the clutch problem is hit and miss - along with the prices for repair. I think a bit more research is needed as I don't particularly want to have to keep £1000 spare just in case!

This is the sad reality I am afraid.
The clutch is a real weak point.
The third revision is 325 which appears much better.
Older models failed with normal map let alone remaps.
the 325 seems to be coping OK even with light remapping.

If you want something more underfoot then the only real option is the CG competition clutch at the moment.
Personally I hate the judder when pulling off.
Others say its not so bad.
A New DMF will be essential with the CG clutch or you'll probably kill an old DMF and then have to replace both.
New DMF = New Clutch.
This is under a 1000 at the moment all in.
Honda fitted replacement clutch is about 625 without a dmf.

Type s is 3 door ...all others are 5 door.
GT has cruise/climate control/panoramic roof
2009 models or newer have blutooth and usb I think
5dr EX has most toys

...this is humour by the way ;)

Thanks Relic - That price breakdown was really helpful. I think I am going to focus on getting a 1.8, the initial outlay seems a lot cheaper as well which helps with budgeting as I'm not going to get much for my old car and I wanted to put my audio in quite soon. Missing having the music sounding nice since I took it it all out of my current car to make it more sensible and ready to sell :(
