I called into my old splendid Honda Dealership today, not for me as the car has gone, but for my daughter.
I have at last convinced her to bin the Freelander, which has been nothing but trouble and Buy a CRV.
So after taking a good gander at that on her behalf, as she is in Italy, I got round to chatting with the head of sales.
He told me Honda have 3 new models in the pipeline :- A dinky about the size of a Smart Car, A people carrier and another which he really didn't know much about. ( Or wouldn't tell me ).
BUT :- There is going to be a Type R he assured me, but a 5 door, as a 2 door will NOT be made. ( turbo. ) and he thinks it will be a diesel.
So, I value our Dan's knowledge and await to be shot down by him, but I have known these guys for donkeys years now. ??

No shooting required.

The 'micro' car looks likely to be along the lines of what has recently been released in India/Far East but we are a good few years away from that being released.

The people carrier has been muted ever since the Skydeck concept was at the Tokyo motorshow and then, since the FR-V ceased production.

Information seems to change on a daily basis and the Type R rumour mill keeps churning. The problem with having a performance model is that we no longer have an engine for it (K20) so have to look at other, greener, alternatives that won't detract from the 'R' marque.

One option is to develop a new engine, FAR FAR too expensive for what over 6 years or so has meant 5-6,000 units of production - its basically only the UK that buys this car.

Second option is to re-develop an existing unit at a lower but still considerable cost. This I believe is the direction that is being considered now.

Oh, and there are DEF no plans for a 3dr as yet.

Well, He said that Honda's 10 year plan is SOoo green and all about fuel saving and low emissions.
so green you couldnt imagine

That's all he would tell me my friend, but he has just returned from Japan.
Where there is a lot going on with Honda's plan for worldwide domination. I hear the 10th Gen civic is already being designed, and it'll look just like Asimo.!!!

" and it'll look just like Asimo.!!! ".

That little chap has been running around and doing his thing on my computer after I downloaded him, for the last year or so.

The new Civic also has those external auto open and close vents, like the latest Fords, I was told.

One more thing that he told me and I forgot to mention in my above posts :---
Honda have linked up with Castrol and done a deal - obviously to save them dosh.
When servicing a diesel, you will not be given an option on oil (unless you supply your own ).
They will only replace with Castrol Edge Professional 0 - 30w, so expect an additional £9 added to your bill, unless you book the car in informing them that it is a diesel and are given a firm price.
Maybe Dan can comment on this.

As far as I'm aware the oil recommended by Honda has always been Castrol but ultimately, it's only a recommendation and as long at the right grade is used, no harm will be done. Each dealership is at liberty to use whatever brand they feel fits (i believe) but as for charging more for a service for it, i've not heard of that one yet.

Let's just hope he was misinformed about the "Type D". Why don't they just turbo charge the k20z?? Granted easier said than done - Lower or do away with the ivtec side of the engine for the sake of the co2 . 260 - 300+ bhp Should be easily achievable. Tdi have done it for a few grand - Why can't Honda?

When I was sorting the papers out for my CTR last month, I got talking to another sales guy and he swore blind that there would be another CTR, and it would not be turbo charged...

Only consistency is that he said it would be a 5 door. I think these guys have just seen the same autocar photoshop that we have, and are making stuff up to be polite.

I can't speak for other dealers but I can say that at NO POINT has there been an official comment about there being a 9th Gen type R - so far its speculation. It may be speculation from people in the know as it were but, still not an official 'YES', yet alone a decision on what will power it. As for Autocar/Autoexpress photoshops, don't make me laugh.

I was chatting to the HUK rep a couple of days ago at the 9g preview evening at my local stealers. He said there would be other variants to the 9g in the next few years, possible even an estate version.
Its no big secret but there will be an estate version at some point, no comment on a 3 door tho. The next big add on is the small diesel and poss the auto diesel.
