Insurance attitude

So I got my renewal through and surprise it went up, no claims no change of details.

I phoned to try and haggle and the attitude is quite shocking really. First off they tried to blame it on other people claiming (not from me, but in general) then they said I shouldn't expect it to come down or stay the same. And insurance is going up for everyone in general and I should except it. I told them I'd shop around.

Found quite a few cheap quotes from some fly-by-nights and one slightly cheaper from a reputable company. Phoned them back told them the score and they were on the defensive saying that's the best they can do and I'd be buying second rate insurance basically trying to scare me into staying, I said if you want to keep me then match it but it's no longer their policy to match.

So I ended up switching for the sake of just £15. Hardly worth it but glad I did just for the way they spoke to me. Where are all these cheap deals that you see on TV?

It can be partly to others to put the blame on. Whilst you might not have had any issues, the area you live in has a big factor. The risk rating or whatever it is might have gone up in your area over the past year. They take into consideration everything from car theft to house burglary and other things.

Surprised they didn't match with the competitor, never had a problem when getting Insurance to match other quotes. At least you wont have to deal with them again no you've moved ;-)

Ive got 19years plus no claims, and cheapest i got was £480.00 from <Kwik fit for the 2.2cdti EX

Directline want £1200 for the same car. so i dont really understand how they work out the sums to be honest, and its the first time in years its this low. only as KwikFit are offereing 20% online discount.
Insurance is a joke. too many middlemen want a cut of the profits from accident victims/ casuers

Live in an NG postcode which is one of the lowest, It just seems like hard work to save 15 quid. Rumour on the street was that insurance came down once you get over 25 but ever since I got there I have paid more every year.

My last insurance quote was actually cheaper if i canceled my policy renewal and went with the SAME company online! Saved me £25!

These make me laugh - a few years back the best quote I could get was a "new customer" deal with the same insurer I was already with. I rang them up and they were unable to price match their own price, so I just let the policy lapse and took out the new one rather than renewing!

:dontknow::lol:

I'd have done the same & swapped & saved £15. One, because of the saving of money & 2 just to get away from them. Would have told them that too.

Ive got full ncb and am 40 but as mark hagan lives down the street its 500 for noddy....

I've had some right mixed insurances over the last few weeks, trying it on different cars & my own.

I thought i'd get a quote on the Type R as a standard car (curious)

I got a quote of a shocking £483. 26 year old & i put my NCB to 6 years (as that's what it'll be for my next insurance, hopefully.)

With mods through a comparison site it came up at £1200.

Paying around £800 now i think for all mods declared like for like with greenlight.

A BMW M3 will cost me around £986 (direct, with the place that quoted me £1100 through comparison sites)

On one comparison site the lower i put my excess, the lower the policy price went down. (550+550 excess = £1300 on one site, 0+550 excess = £1083)

A Audi RS6 will cost me around £760

A C55 AMG will cost me around £1,100 (Pretty much the same for E55, with like 100bhp more!)

Been trying with my dad added to policy too, saves me a good chunk!

Does seem a bit random though, i get quotes from the 1100 to 6k on comparison sites.

It wouldnt surprise me, when I looked for insurance using a comparison site, the quotes ranged from about 500 to a few thousand.

And just to be fair, not that they necessarily deserve it, a lot of it comes from spreading the cost from all insurance claims over all insurance premiums.
Im fairly sure that those that dont claim would rather those that do paid vastly more though.

^^^^ what he says. I have never paid the same or more than previous year. I have always managed to find a cheaper quote.

Paid £1600 first year of holding a license, for a £3000 1.6 diesel Citroen C4 (I know, the shame - it was good for the motorway miles at the time), first renewal the same car came down to £720, same company (features a naval officer rank in their name).

Changed to the 2.2 EX, with an agreed value something like £8000, halfway through the policy for an extra £100, and at last renewal I shopped around and got it cheapest with sainsburys for £760!

2yr NCB, 25 years old offshore engineer, I though it would be far more extortionate. I also have my mum and grandad on the policy, both with astronomical NCBs, which helped substantially. I though premiums would drop upon hitting 25 but apparently it's now changed to when you turn 26. Something to do with shifting the goalposts!

if your mentioning APR, i was quoted £480ish from Kwik Fit for their platinum insurance product (breakdown, and legal cover included) other it was £440 without
Anyway on confused.com kwik fit come up as £620 odd monthly payment with the premium
so i said shaft that and pay one off up front £480.
Got to the end of the quote and i was offered buy £480ish or 11x Monthly premiums =£508.00

im sure it was a glitch on their site however snapped that up and got it all confirmed (Bargain APR)

interesting stuff, AXA quoted a renewal of £420 for my CIVIC, which I thought was good, 5 years no claims, some idiot hit my Cooper S in 2009 side on and wrote off his Focus, Mini got repaired, altho HIS fault for doing 60mph in a 30 zone, I was blamed, ANYWAY I always shop around, tried that hideous gocompare and for 5 minutes effort ESURE came up with £261 !! For a Honda Civic Type S gt Cdti . Mind you, I'm ancient, 57 and living on Tyneside.

25yr + 6 yrs no claims + no ppts

I got a quote on compare the market for £376 with mummy on the policy. Thats with £0 voluntary excess. Then i added an engine remap modification to the policy and it increased to £480. The devil on my shoulder's telling me not to put down the modification, but i cant help but be honest :( just incase i write the car off and am too incapacitated to change the mapping back to standard ** the car gets toed away lol
