I have looked at the wiki about the rear reversing camera but can i have some information from the users please on how much it is to be fitted at a dealer and how good is it ?

Your comments would be appreciated.

Cheers

Do not have it myself, as the dealers here advise it is not much good in the winter time with snow and ice covering it up.

But in more humane climates, it sounds like most users are happy with it.

It is not the snow and ice that is the problem for the camera during the winter, but rather the incessantly road salting and all the dirty/muddy roads as a result of that. (That's what I hate most about the winters, not the winters itself.)
But it is done in a matter of seconds to wipe it clean with some rinse spray and a soft cloth when it is nessesary, so no prob.
The camera works great, it is a 'must' for me now, didn't realize that until I ordered it on this car. (Lazy, you know )
Expensive - yes, but I don't regret it, well spent money, imo. [smilie=tongue.gif]

rev cam

got to agree, can't do without it, a bit expensive but worth it, perfect picture quality even in the dark.

Reversing cameras take a bit of getting used to but I wouldn't be without it. At a glance you see that all is clear behind but I have not mastered using it to maneuver the car. Cleaning has not been a problem, requiring a very occasional wipe.

I fitted my own using a camera equal to Honda's at a cost of £170. The Honda camera costs £625 fitted by the dealer (you must have satnav). It's a time-consuming job so I guess that's why it's pricey.

Ive Used A £30 One From Ebay And Does The Job Very Well, My Friend Was That Impressed He Has Also Bought One And Now I Have To Fit It!!

My Honda camera is the most useful 'extra' on the car. It can even be used when reversing into a car park space as the white line on the ground behind the car is visible right up to it. When reversing in a space between two cars it enables one to safely reverse within an inch of the car behind with no worry.

I don't think I will ever buy another car without one.

agreed - wouldn't be without it :D

Pricey, yes, but worth every penny :D

DIY a lot cheaper, and a definate option if you don't mind getting stuck in :D

Or the wireless version is another option - less fiddly, dead cheap, only downside is a seperate screen on the dash :D

but one way or the other, something definately worth having :D

Thanks for all your comments. Don't like the DIY version with the extra screen on the dash.

No way will i pay over £600 for the camera though. I think i'll have to get one fitted by doing it myself if i can find a kit that plugs into the Sat Nav unit.

I really like the reversing camera... makes everything so much easier when in reverse. The picture quality is perfectly adequate & I have yet to run a cat over whilst reversing out of my driveway so they like it too. Nighttime vision is excellent & the width of the field of view is better than the mirrors provide.

It does get a bit murky with salt from the road but whenever I remember I just dab my finger on my tongue & wipe it across the tiny lens. :D

I Sourced A Plug That Fits The Nav Unit, The Centre Plug:-

Does that mean if i bought a camera it could be connected though to the sat-nav screen ?
Any info where to get it from ?

I got mine with the 'pack' I bought (reversing camera, ambient lighting, door garnishes, mats). I'm very pleased with it as it really helps with parking.

Ctrdaveg,

Briefly, to get you started, you will need :-

A camera, hopefully with mounting bracket. Needs to be NTSC video standard.
A connector for back of satnav.
A mating connector to suite camera cable.
A short length of multicore cable.

Basic soldering skills and plenty of time.

Many plastic panels have to be removed, have a look at the photo's in this thread, see how you feel about it... http://www.civinfo.com/forum/electronics/1751-rearview-camera-pdf.html?highlight=camera

No way, i'm not doing that to my car. [smilie=shocked.gif]
I'll just have to get the Mrs to jump out in very tight parking conditions [smilie=cheeky-grin:
