I have looked at the wiki about the rear reversing camera but can i have some information from the users please on how much it is to be fitted at a dealer and how good is it ?
It is not the snow and ice that is the problem for the camera during the winter, but rather the incessantly road salting and all the dirty/muddy roads as a result of that. (That's what I hate most about the winters, not the winters itself.)
But it is done in a matter of seconds to wipe it clean with some rinse spray and a soft cloth when it is nessesary, so no prob.
The camera works great, it is a 'must' for me now, didn't realize that until I ordered it on this car. (Lazy, you know )
Expensive - yes, but I don't regret it, well spent money, imo. [smilie=tongue.gif]
Reversing cameras take a bit of getting used to but I wouldn't be without it. At a glance you see that all is clear behind but I have not mastered using it to maneuver the car. Cleaning has not been a problem, requiring a very occasional wipe.
I fitted my own using a camera equal to Honda's at a cost of £170. The Honda camera costs £625 fitted by the dealer (you must have satnav). It's a time-consuming job so I guess that's why it's pricey.
My Honda camera is the most useful 'extra' on the car. It can even be used when reversing into a car park space as the white line on the ground behind the car is visible right up to it. When reversing in a space between two cars it enables one to safely reverse within an inch of the car behind with no worry.
I don't think I will ever buy another car without one.
Thanks for all your comments. Don't like the DIY version with the extra screen on the dash.
No way will i pay over £600 for the camera though. I think i'll have to get one fitted by doing it myself if i can find a kit that plugs into the Sat Nav unit.
Sallytraffic's idea is a good one. (See above).
A cheapo,' but does the job and it won't get dirty or nicked, as he has mounted it inside the car, above the parcel shelf.
Very straight forward installation.
I really like the reversing camera... makes everything so much easier when in reverse. The picture quality is perfectly adequate & I have yet to run a cat over whilst reversing out of my driveway so they like it too. Nighttime vision is excellent & the width of the field of view is better than the mirrors provide.
It does get a bit murky with salt from the road but whenever I remember I just dab my finger on my tongue & wipe it across the tiny lens.
I got mine with the 'pack' I bought (reversing camera, ambient lighting, door garnishes, mats). I'm very pleased with it as it really helps with parking.
A camera, hopefully with mounting bracket. Needs to be NTSC video standard.
A connector for back of satnav.
A mating connector to suite camera cable.
A short length of multicore cable.
No way, i'm not doing that to my car. [smilie=shocked.gif]
I'll just have to get the Mrs to jump out in very tight parking conditions [smilie=cheeky-grin:
