Pottsy, we would appreciate a bunch of your famous graphs for these two, before we wait about a month for the mag...
Even if they performed similar, the 4000 GBP difference would be enough to weigh the balance in favour of the Type-R...
Car magazine also have a bit on the Type-R in the latest paper edition. I don't think they get to drive it though.
This was their original bit in August: http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/secret_new_car.php?page=1&sid=68
I expect the latest will be in the First Drives section soon.
Yup. As my post above yours says, evo have a group test of the Type-R versus all it's rivals in the next issue which goes on sale on 7th Feb. Even if it appears in Autoexpress before that time I think I will hold on for evo's proper verdict. They might even be getting an exclusive as they do seem to be pretty popular with the manufacturers having just done the only official road test with independent performance figures of the Ferrari 599GTB.
Their group tests are always head and shoulders above anyone elses and they also seem to understand what the Type-R should be too, so the verdict will be honest.
They voted the DC2 'teg as the drivers car of the decade, having driven one hard I can only agree. Lets hope the new R even gets a mention in the same sentence....
I.. erm... have a couple of mates who not only can confirm that is total BS but if I dropped them a call to let them know the implication/accusation they would probably seek further action. The evo team are surprisingly unaffected by matters of manufacturer bribes or attempted bribes dispite all the offers they get (they are quite influential in the car world these days).
I take it you have driven neither the Clio 182 or the 6 series? Thanks to a mate I've driven both, BMW is mighty impressive with stonking power but feels heavy. For this reason you don't really use all the potential through the "twisties". Clio on the other hand feels so light that you tend to drive the tyres off it. Personally I honestly beleive I could drive the Clio faster down a real challenging road than the BMW (for all its power). So based on personal experience I would actually agree, on tight twist roads the Clio would be the faster in normal hands.
Oh, and the latest Megane 225 is in this months evo driven section and they aint that impressed IIRC
Good. Finally they get somthing correct! Woop Woop
