Sooooo I kinda got bored of blueish silver, and I've been looking into plastidipping odd little bits of the car for a fair while.
It came out pretty well, so I decided to do the entire car. I remembered seeing the "unusual" civic on here which was plastidipped, which didn't really get a warm welcome. But the job itself looked a good one, so I got into contact with Hurricane Customs, down in Southampton, relatively local to me.
Got into contact, James was helpful, so I went for it. So glad I did!
Looks AMAZING. Cameras don't do it justice, but I'm going to try and get a better set of pictures tomorrow with a proper camera! Curious as to what you guys think?
Not a fan of the door handles being dipped the same colour (I like how they stand out usually), but that Orange is fantastic! How much did that set you back and how long did it take, if you don't mind my asking? (I've got an MR2 that could benefit from something like that!)
Plasti dip looks better than I originally thought. Have to do another meet John so I can see your motor in the flesh. Very happy the new venture is working out mate
Looks a standard 5 door arch and custom cut to fit the splitter (3rd and 7th image)
Aye you can do, costs a bit extra as you have to get extra layers over it, and the material costs more "Plasti-dip glossifier" or something similar, but you can go glossy with it. Won't ever be QUITE as glossy as paint, but damn near from the look of it.
i like your previous color too (mine is also cosmic gray), but daaaamn that orange & black combo looks hot! Personally i'd dip the door handles black and maybe also the fuel cap, as right now it looks kinda out of place. Besides that, a nice sports grille would totally set off the look of this beast
great job!
Going back this weekend to get the door handles, mirrors & fuel cap done. The trim needed a bit of touch up due to a masking tape issue, so going to get these odd bits done too.
Sports grille is on the list, but suspension is too! The ride is getting damn hard.
At its basics, spray on rubber coating. You literally just spray it onto a car.
Then once you're bored with it, or need to sell it, or fancy a change, you peal it off again, and the original paintwork is protected and no damage done.
Skip through that, requires a lot less prep than painting and wrapping.
A couple of issues are starting to crop up though, one of the door seals seems to have pulled off the plastidip, so I'm going to have to be careful that doesn't get worse. The door handles have started to loose grip too, teething problems hopefully though!
It looks like there may have been grease or something in the crevasse of the door handle, so it stuck to that instead of the plastic. Simple fix though, peel it off, clean it again, spray back on.
Might take them of this time though, see if I can get a better covering, and give it a bath.
So, after all, I can firmly recommend NOT getting your car plastidipped.
The black on the trim is pealing up all over the place, the door handles is now basically pealed off. The large flat panels are ok, but it's become stone chipped on the bumper.
The edges around the doors are starting to peal up too.
Due to a stupid people carrier crashing into me, yet again, I'm going to have to rip it all off and go back to stock colour for a while, as it's difficult, nigh on impossible to get a proper colour match I've found.
Maybe in a few years when it's gotten better, but until then, avoid.

I didn't use plasti-dip, but I did use an equivalent...and this is the 3rd year on my car. I have had a few little issues, but as I painted it myself, it's easy to touch up odd areas.
I wouldn't recommend it if your car is your daily, it just isn't durable enough, but on a show car or weekend toy, it's fine.
The great thing about it is the cost - if you can do it yourself. I changed the colour last year, cost me £70 to do the whole car.
When you're paying £700 to get it done, you're almost half way to a proper respray...I'd pay the extra!
