Hi Folks,

New to the forum, found while browsing for info on Honda Jazz's.
I'm in the market for a brand new small car for my parents, who are both pensioners and cash buyers.
We like the Yaris and the Jazz. Using the scrappage scheme the Toyota dealer has also offered us a further £1000 off, but the rather arrogant Honda dealer said he 'wasn't even sure if he could throw in free mats, and the popular Jazz's flew out the show room, selling themselves'.
Never having bought new, do we go to another Honda dealer as we preferred the Jazz or just stick with the Yaris as it's a much better deal?

Any advise greatfully received.

Another dealer, you should be getting more than a set of mats. Visit Whatcar.com to get a target price for the Jazz, this will tell you what you should be getting as a discount minimum.

Also try Drivethedeal.com which will tell you the cheapest UK main dealer supplied Jazz.

My girlfriend has a Yaris, and I can't fault it, but the Jazz is also a great little car, good luck :)

Also don't go in and let them know it's a cash deal - they get more bonus if you take out finance and will probably do more to clinch the deal.

Don't let them know the payment method until you are happy with the deal (finance as always an option isn't it ;))

Things to aim for in the deal
Mats
Mud flaps
Metallic paint
Parking sensors
maybe tinted windows

Expect 12 months tax and full tank of petrol as freebies from Honda - not the dealer

Thankyou for your replies.

I have checked What Car, but the car price doesn't appear to be the same, as that now being quoted. Sadly, it appears Honda don't like giving much in the way of a deal. :(

I will try another dealer and if nothing comes of it either, I'll advise my parents to take the other offer. (I hate haggling)

Thanks again,

Arissa

You must try change your ways.
Nothing like a good Haggle these days or any day for that matter.
Dealers will be having a laugh, if you just accept their prices.
Never seem too keen and let them know you will go elsewhere if need be.
You should see me and my kid at Comet.
Can't remember the last time, we didn't get a freebie or further discount on a purchase.

I've no idea what sort of deal you'll be able to get, but the Jazz is fantastic small car. I owned the older one which was fantastic. I've test driven the new one, and it's better!

Haggling is fun, and I always enjoy making the salesman squirm as you squeeze a spare bulb kit from them. I had the opposite to you, very pleasant Honda salesman, absolute a-hole of a Toyota salesman (he was so bad he got a complaint sent to toyota, via email, registered letter and phone.....). TBH, have you considered a VW? The VW Fox is a great car, as are many of the KIA's (that 7-10 year warranty is a great deal, and my dealer in canterbury is doing 2K scrappage, chucking in another grands saving and a whole host of special extras to get you buying....).

Must admit I wasn't impressed by the jazz, but that was the last model with awful automatic gear box, very lightweight (read slow) engine and just not much pzazzz, but I hear they've changed it a great deal.

Tom

I'm afraid I don't like haggling even when we've been abroad and gone to markets where it's common practice. But the Yaris dealer was a lovely chap and easy to deal with.
I know when other people have bought new cars some sort of deal is the usual thing but with the Honda dealer appearing not to care it just left me feeling a bit surprised.

I hadn't thought about the Fox or was even aware about the Kia or the 7-10 year warranty deal they are offering. Thanks for that I'll go and investigate those now :)

My friend is a guy with VW tattooed across his heart as is his dad, both have nearly been pulled to the darkside of KIA, by the warranty........ :D Hope he doesn't read this....... ;-)

KIA Picanto: http://www.kia.co.uk/New-Cars/Range/Compact/Picanto.aspx

Offers: http://www.kia.co.uk/New-Cars/Range/Compact/Picanto/Offers/Special-Edition-Strike.aspx

Scrappage: http://www.kia.co.uk/New-Cars/Range/Compact/Picanto/Scrappage-Scheme.aspx

FOX scrappage is like 300 pounds more than the Piccanto offer I think: http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/#/new/fox/ But VW's hold their price well.

Arissa,

I own a 'NEW' model Jazz (1.4 ES Vtec) bought on 1st March having owned the previous Model (also 1.4 SE (not Vtec) for 6 years.

The previous Model had done 66000 miles at Sale and had 'NEVER' had any failures in all that time.

It was Dealer serviced each year - I give it's history because I believe that the NEW model 'IS' much improved over the old - Ride, Comfort and a Vtec Engine, SO should be an excellent buy for your Parents

You 'SHOULD NOT' be afraid to Haggle at the Dealers Honda's inclusive OTR Price should include Delivery, R/Tax, 1st Reg Cost, No. Plates and a full Tank of Fuel.

I achieved a Cash Discount of £500 + Mud Flaps and Mats included, could not get them to include Metallic Paint.

I also own a Civic which is my main Car - also purchased at a very good Price.

Don't be put OFF - take someone with you who will 'HAGGLE', I don't think the Jazz will disappoint your Folks and it has a great seating adaptability - I wish you GOOD LUCK!!

Let us know what happens
