We've had a few new members who have spammed the forum to get the 5 required posts to send a PM.

I spotted and tracked one a few days ago (also reported thanks) that created 5 single letter posts just to send a secret PM to trade with a seller, against the rules.

If it works as setup then new members will now need 20 posts and to have been a member here for 2 weeks before PM's are allowed.

Not a lot to ask, and, puts us in line with other forums that have trading areas.

New members. Let us know if you have any issues.

I've left this open for comments, praise, threats, etc :)

Now this has been going a while we can now confirm that a Registered member needs to have been registered at least 2 weeks - and - have 20 valid posts under their belt before they can send PM's.

Hi I have been a member (although not very active) since 2012, but have hardly posted. Any chance of making an exception to the 20 posts for my account? I'm trying to get another set of fog lamp covers (which I last bought through here in 2014) but am unable to get the pm for payment details etc. Understand if there are no exceptions, I just didnt want to start commenting on random posts to reach the limit :smile3:

We can increase the post count but we can't override the 2 weeks.

An unfortunate side effect of previous spammers.

When there was no post count required we had fraud.

When I look around some other car forums we are quite light. Seems that car related trading is a minefield.

Thanks for not spamming.

We can, but, unless you're a Supporter you can't post a for sale item nor reply to a Wanted post.

All trading must be conducted on the forum before a PM exchange starts.

I used a thread about loading speed cameras into the 10G garmin Nav somehow before I joined the forums / site. Now I can't reach it to read it again. I fancy a new update before my hols and I know it requires a map update - even of the same version - to do that.

Can anyone explain why I can't access this thread?

https://www.civinfo.com/forum/how-g...a-alerts-honda-connect-garmin-navigation.html

I get this:

DavidMC43, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

If you are trying to post a for sale thread, then you need to be a supporter (see stickers link at the top of the page).
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system? Have a look in the Basic Tutorials section
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

I am a member now with 5 highly intelligent posts :) Do I need 20. I have got into every other discussion along the way just fine! Most perplexing.

Help??

The thread in question was refering to an illegal (as we understand it) cracked/unlocked version of the Cyclops database.

We heard a rumour that Garmin are considering taking action against the site hosting the database so we moved the thread away from the 'open' forum and therefore cannot be found by a 'Google'.

OK great and thanks.

I have Garmin SAT NAV for my E46M3 and already subscribe to the cyclops speed cam database for that. However I want to upload the PGPSW database to the CTR - that is way better anyway. I know as both run together on the portable nav and Cyclops with the exception of 'directional' warnings is not that great. I also subscribe to PGPSW naturally.

The very first thing that you need is Kremmens CSV to GPX converter.
This is a wondrously good piece of software that runs on a Windows PC.
It has in its download modified icons (instead of the blue dot) and 'Real Voice' warning files (instead of the beep). You can also eliminate repeated alerts for adjacent cams (Such as two cams on one gantry trapping the opposite tracks), and you can set the alert times (distances) and whether you want a second overspeed alert or not.

Once you have created the .GPX file you then run POI loader to create a file cameras.gpi file on your map update USB stick in the folder \\Garmin\Poi\Cameras.gpi
You should already have a file something like D6895020A.gpi (Honda POIs) and probably/possibly UKIrelandCyclops safetycam.gpi

Shove the stick into your car and let it update the SatNav. You must have all the stuff that the satnav and Garmin Express (map update) puts on the USB stick present and correct as well as the new .gpi file.

For it to work correctly, you have to 'Restore' the satnav after every startup, but the cameras will show on the map as well as the 'knives and forks' and cash machines etc.

There you go. A short summary of how to do it.

Thanks folks: I'll read through again slowly :)

I have updated the CTR nav once and got the speed cams on (following the instructions on the locked thread).

I am totally legit having subscribed to both Garmin Cyclops and PGSPW databases. The first time round it worked nicely as, despite the car being new, the map was out of date, so the Garmin Express offered me a new map to download for the car and I was able to edit the folders and added both GPI files. Ultimately I only got the PGPSW data base to run on the nav but that'll do.

I presume that since the nav does not need a new map I can still repeat the process simply re-installing the current map but with a newer GPI from PGPSW added as before?

I'll have a go in Sept in time for my trip to Germany....

"That's the way to do it" he said with his best Mr. Punch swazzle voice.

But don't forget that you have to "Restore" the sat nav every time you start the engine, which will clear out any user destinations etc that you may have programmed in and reset the maps to the default colour scheme (if you have set them to UK.)

As a new member it is incredibly annoying not to be able to post replies. I have got an ad in the classified wanted section that I would like to close but cannot see how....normally I would post a reply to the post saying no longer needed but can't because I haven't 20 posts......very annoying

Report the last post and explain why you have reported it. That brings it to the attentions of mods, but until a mod knows what thread you are talking about, it's difficult to help you.
The 20 post limit was introduced as a spam suppression technique.

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
