Hello all,

Been having loads of issues with my knackered old battery. Picked up a Bosch s4 after it was rcommended to me on here but when I tried to fit it my the + pole on the battery turned out to be too slim for the + connector on the car.... any one got any ideas? If an FN2 owner could give me the make and model of a decent battery that fits that'd be grand :)

Thanks

Battery terminals are often lead.

You could wrap the terminal with some thin lead sheet cut to size to bulk it out to the correct bore, then clamp onto that. I've done that on a previous car and it works perfectly as the clamp compresses it more or less into one.

However, I'd find out how other S4 battery changers have got on 1st as maybe you have a slightly different variant.

"JIS" standard batteries should have the smaller diameter poles - about 3/4" (the "+" and "-" are slightly different, to avoid misconnection) ...

Can't understand why a FN2 would have clamps for the larger (European) poles, unless someone has themselves changed the setup ? ...

Pabby, which battery did you get? I had the opposite problem, ie,the Bosch S4021 recommended on here, has the large poles, my wifes 1.4SE has small cable connectors. You can get the right size +ve connector (which bolts to the fuse block) and -ve earth cable from Honda, but they are not cheap. A better option for me at the outset would have been to buy a Bosch S4020 ?(from memory) battery which is the same as an S4021 but with the small jap size poles.

Bit strange ! ...

Bosch "JIS" S4 batteries can come with circa 3/4" (e.g. 4021) or circa 1/2" (e.g. 4020) diameter poles ...

Did Honda use different pole sizes for the OEM batteries at different times in the Civic's production run ? ...

Got similiar problem which I explained here -> http://www.civinfo.com/forum/electr...tery-better-then-honda-oem-7.html#post1021064

Is that the same issue? Did I just bought a wrong battery type?

I am thinking of cutting out some of the plastic from the top of the cover as I think this should help.
It should be the S4021 you need - the S4023 can be fitted, but needs to be reversed and the cables are straining to reach ...

See this post, for definitive pictures :-
