So, if you were to order a Type-R, what colour would it be (2 of the options below are not available for real)?

MC, (sorry, but I just keep hearing U Can't Touch This when I see your name...)

I think a Cosmic old-shape Type-R was quite subtle and had those qualities, but the new one is a bit more in your face, so may attract the loud colours. Like the YELLOW!!! :)

IMO white is being saved for a special edition, or the type RR.
Now that's a very intruiging thought.

I hope you're right.

What is it and "white" being the colour for the type-r?
To look at from a distance the type-r would look just like a normal 5 door civic ( getting closer to it would show it as being a bit different). So the question I am going to ask is would anyone have choosen white for there civic if it was offered?

I have owned a white car before and wouldnt touch one even if it was draped with all the girls from the Playboy mansion....lol

Ok, I wouldnt have bought a white 5 door but to understand white being the colour of choice for the Type-R you have to understand the "concept" of the original "Type-R" breed.

But to put it simply, the original Type-R's (and the Jap only models) were all white for a simple reason..... weight saving!!

White paint is far lighter than coloured paint (yes really, Honda saved quite a bit of weight with this simple measure) and the Type-R was all about "adding lightness", to use a Colin Chapmanism. The original cars were always only available in White and white only (With lightweight glass all round, no sound proofing, no stereo etc etc), it was only with the latter European Civic's and European DC2 integra's that a couple of other colour options were added along with things like stereo's Air con etc.
Over the latter years, mainly in the UK, people have bought the Type-R's just to get the fancy badge and bodykit and to boast about having the top of the range. Sad behaviour.
Its also really sad that Honda "Championship white" might not be available, thats Honda Europe making a mistake in my mind. I would put good money that the Japanese market Type-R when launched will be available in White, and be more of a focused street car with very little in the way of frills (just look at the last of the line Japan only DC5 Integra's, rock hard suspension, loud and uncompromising, but rated as fantastic fast cars for road and track). In fact I wouldnt be surprised if they launch the American market coupe as a Type-R (Maybe a DC6?)

A Type-R in a fancy metallic colour is not in keeping with the concept of a light weight screaming "street weapon" (How the Type-R was once desribed in Japan when it first launched all those years ago).

White is the choice of those who "understand" what "Type-R" stands for :D (If I bought one the interior options would be as basic spec as possible through choice)

My girlfriend has just reminded me that the type-r that was on show at the motoshow was a pearlecent white, to be fair it did look good on a turntable with half a dozen spotlights on it.

I can understand the purest wanting an original type-r, but how many will actually drive the car as it was designed to be driven...not many I guess. This would then be just a case of people showing of the badge. Bit sad in my mind but hey ho each to there own.

What, and then the driver could weigh 10 stone or 15 stone??? I suppose he/she could wear white undies!
hmmm...... Bit of a pathetic comment really. Whats the point in being pedantic?

My answer to your (IMO a bit stupid) question/statement is another question/statement:-

Do all racing drivers all over the world weigh the same?

No they don't, but it doesnt stop all the race car manufacturers making thier cars as light as possible. And the Type-R (in Japan at least) is subtly billed as a "race car for the road" echoing their racing heratige, why do you think its called Type-R ? .

So making the car as light as possible (Just like a race car) was always worth while and firmly fits in with the original ethos of the model range concept. And yes, wether you beleive it or not white paint does weigh less that coloured paint. Remember Jaguar Racing's press release about their special formula Racing Green used on the F1 car? what was special about it? They managed to make it lighter than it should have been considering the metallic pigment contained. (Also remember that the 996 GT3RS was only available in white and the paint was also several coats thinner).

yes you can add the weight back yourself with a six pack of coke or a heavy sunday lunch, but doesnt mean the manufactuer shouldnt have tried in the first place. On the whole, Lighter weight = Better performance.

And adding to the reasons I've already stated the following is also listed on Honda's world website:-

Honda themselves said:
Type R traces its origins back to the car that raced to Honda's first Formula One victory at the Mexico Grand Prix in 1965. That special car raced in a pure white livery emblazoned with a crimson script emblem-an emblem that symbolized Honda's racing spirit. We have reserved that same crimson script for our TYPE R production cars. It is a mark of special excellence, signifying technology developed in the fierce crucible of motor sports and Honda's unswerving dedication to racing.
So for that reason alone the car should indeed by white with red badges.

Lets play nice eh? :D

No offence intended
Don't worry, none was taken (you b**tard hehehehe) :D :D

I guess a more measured way of putting is:-

"Why do people always like Red ferrari's and Silver Merc's?"

All down to racing heratige. And honda have shed loads of that but only 1 model that ever celebrates it... Type-R

That's a strange one actually CivPilot, as If was ever in the market for a new Ferrari, I don't think I'd want Red!!! :? :?

Seems a bit too cliche'd for me.......like a XKR or Aston in British Racing Green - no ta. :x :x
My thoughts exactly. Seems like there are two ways of looking at this. :)

Thanks jayt, I was attempting a light hearted comment.

Sorry [smilie=smack.gif]
Kevin_lufc asked:-

"What is it and "white" being the colour for the type-r?"

I responded giving a proper explanation.

You then joined in with a comment that was appeared by the way it was written to be sarky comment directed at my post (which was posted to answer a question, not take the pi$$).

Backed up with smilies then yes, I would have laughed and responded in kind, but written the way it was it came accross as a kind of "I'm better than you so I'm gonna be clever" kind of post (With the collection of question marks, the internet equivelent of "WTF" ;) ). So I responded in kind.

Example, If I was to call you a "Total to$$er!" on a message board with no smilies how would you react? Now If I was to call you a "Total to$$er" to your face whilst in the midst of having a laugh with you would you react differently? Of course you would, because you would be able to read my jovial emotion and see I was joking around. Smilies on the internet replace this "face to face read" ability. (Obviously I'm not calling you one, just using the example to help me making the point :) )

No need to say sorry to me for the comment, we can both say sorry to each other....

You sorry for not adding smilies :(

Me sorry for reading the post according to its missing smilies and not seeing the joke :(

No hard feeling on either side I'm sure.

I was told the following by a family friend who has downs syndrome who loves internet message boards, still makes me laugh to this day and its pretty spot on the money:-

Remember, Arguing on the internet is alot like entering the special olympics, even if you win, your still a R****d
(And the joke originator is has Downs syndrome so I feel its kinda ok to laugh at it, sorry if anyone takes offence)

Anywho.... back on topic.....

Type-R = White :p

(but I wouldnt buy a red Ferrari, if fact I wouldn't buy a Ferrari at all to be honest, dreadfully made things)
