FN2 to S2000 Still On?

Well the past few days I have been trying to do a deal with numerous dealers on a brand new unregistered S2000 with my FN2 as part ex.

My preference was moonrock with red leather but these are like rocking horse plop

tonight a chap at Bristol Honda was within inches of me ordering over the phone, I even had my credit card out for the deposit.

The deal went ~ my car + £7395 for the new moonrock S2000 (no red leather, but black I can live with)

anyway, to cut a long story short he let me walk as he wouldn't throw in a set of mats. He said they are £124 and he has no more margin left ~ yeah right

I tried to say lose them in another deal or find a way around it but nope he didn't fancy selling a car just before he went home!

So long story short it looks like I am keeping my FN2, after getting all exited it seems the dealers aren't desperate after all.

Just thought I would share this little tale with you guys.

Well basically it's an incentive Honda were running, dealers needed to buy 3 S2000's to get the discount from Honda.

So for instance my local dealer can't get me one as they didn't take up the Honda scheme. They are still looking to source one for me from the dealer network but will another dealer let one go? I doubt it?

The mats thing was funny, no doubt I'll probably get another call tomorrow.

Might just have to charge the FN2 to cheer me up now

I was looking at an s2000 also, my dealer can do a GT for £20,250, what price was your dealer doing the car for?

JP, swallow your pride and do it. Pay for the mats if you need to. A few months down the line you will be spending a lot more on it getting it tuned anyhow!!

I have to say I would have taken the deal to get the S2000 even without them throwing in the mats.

It seems like a great deal. If he doesn't call you back tomorrow, I think I'd call him and take the offer without the mats.

I'm sure Gordons Honda or Holdcroft Honda will fix you up with a set of mats.

Sounds like a decent deal to me.

Call him tomorrow and see if he has changed his mind about including the mats.

Just a slight aside ... but, just a few days ago, I saw an episode of 5th. Gear ...

They compared the JDM Civic Mugen RR to the S2000 (track test) ... and the S2000 lost out ! ...

But - hallo - circa £ 20,000 for an S2000 and you walked away ? ... you can't buy a 1.4 Civic for that here ! ...

p.s. - actually - a Jazz 1.2 costs over £ 20,000 !!! ...

I should say I already went up from my budget for cost to change of £6,000 to the £7,400 and for the dealer to let me walk away over a set of mats which cost them next to nothing is shocking, if it had red leather I might just of paid it but the car was a compromise to begin with, not to mention having to drive to Bristol to do the deal / exchange etc, it just felt like the dealer wasn't doing enough to win my custom.

I will contact westgate honda and keep checking out other places. I keep seeing imports too but have told myself to steer clear.

we shall see what tomorrow brings.

If you can be strong and not call for a couple of days there's a good chance they will call you back. You never know though he might have been down to his lowest. Or meet you half way maybe? Mats at cost?

It's done!

This morning they called back, and said they had seen this post on civinfo

I said how, they said they have a tracking thing on their computer which lets them know if and where they are mentioned on the internet, they then found this post and hey presto called me! I was in shock.

Not only did they throw in the mats (told you doubters), they have thrown in the ipod kit too

So next week I should take delivery of my brand new 2009 S2000 in moonrock. It might be a bit longer as I have just ordered my new private reg which I am now waiting on.

I will still be lurking about as there isn't a S2K forum that can compete with Civinfo. Keep an eye open for my sale thread coming soon for all my "as new" mods
