EPS Control Unit needs changing

Dear all,

I am a newbie to this forum and also to any mechincal issues!

My Car:

Honda Civic 1.7 CtDI - Imagine 5 door
2003 plate (03)
Diesel

Issue:

After start EPS light does not go out and restore power steering for atleast 30 - 45 minutes and this issue gets worse when the car has been off for a while or cold.

It has recently tested by Honda - who confirm the issue is that EPS Control Unit is defective and needs changing. For labour and parts inc VAT they want ....wait for it 600/- .......ok now that I have got back on my chair..

I looked and sourced the same unit from a breakers for 80 gbp posted.

I was advised by the guys in the breakers that its very easy to change this myself.

Can anyone please advice what I need to do to sort this issue out myself and fit this?

Any help will be appreciated.

Please note I am a mechanical virgin so will need detailed explanations and assistance to get this done.

Thanks in advance.

oh was there - if there was can you give me any sort of information or links to anything with which I can hold on to Hondas crown jewels

I will add that I did plug my VIN number on the recall site and it said my vehicle was fine.

Anyone having problems with a warning light on the dash for the EPS should take a look at the recall site at VOSA corporate website this UK goverment site shows that Civic's were recalled for this fault.

Thanks Duncan.

Does the build start and end date mean the cars were manufactered in that period?

Cheers

PS so any ideas on how I can get this fixed?

Your car details.... Honda Civic 1.7 CtDI - Imagine 5 door
2003 plate (03)
Diesel

The recall does NOT include your model, only applying to the "new" shape Civic introduced in 2005.
I know from experience as my 2.2 diesel was included and had the EPS replaced. Hope this helps.
