FS bumping

Every forum I'm a member of (bar here) has a rule where by you cannot keep bumping your for sale threads to get them up top.
They all have a 7 day bump rule after which you can do so.

Quote:
2.5.1a - With the exception of the conditions highlighted in rule 2.5.1d, bumping your For Sale threads is not allowed. You may only post in your For Sale thread to respond to interested parties and to advertise a price drop. You are also allowed one photo update post. All other posts including "updates" will be considered bumping. This also includes listing the same item(s) in another For Sale thread.
Rule d says you can give yourself a weekly bump. Makes sense especially when a lot of people are selling the same thing. I'm surprised with the stringent rules in place that this isn't one of them.

What problem does thread bumping bring? Also how can you say what is bumping and what isn't, example saying "bump" is a blatant bump. But what is thanking someone for saying nice things about an item for sale?

I have to agree with the OP.

When you log into the forums and go to the for sale section you're looking for new items that take your interest and have to scroll through the mass of "Bump" and "TTT" posts etc etc that happen on threads on a daily (and in some case multiple daily) bumps.

Ash, in theory, people shouldn't be "saying nice things about an item for sale" as Item 11 in the selling rules clearly states: -

"If you have no intention of making a purchase, stay off the thread. If you are interested in the item for sale, you may link to a website offering a lower price. Posts from users who are clearly not interested in buying, will be deleted."

So stating on a thread that, for instance "I can't believe this hasn't sold yet it's a fantastic price/item/product" strictly speaking, shouldn't be allowed....

It's unfair for those who don't spend a lot of time on here and pollutes threads in the same way that people who don't have any interest in buying an item do (which we have a rule for).
We are not allowed to advertise on more than one site but its ok to post in your own thread to keep it on the front page of the site. A different form of spam.
My exhaust dropped off the first page after 2 days, what right do I have to bump it back to the top over people who posted days or hours/minutes after me.

Agreed however saying nice things about an item could be seen as expressing an interest.

I agree bumping a thread multiple times a day is overkill but once a day isn't in my opinion.

Stopping threads from being bumped will lead to for sale threads becoming stale, lost and forgotten.

Cars can be advertised on more than one site.

Thing is if bumping is banned then every post the seller makes in a thread would have to be justified and it will lead to a headache for mods I imagine.

True but it also keeps the section nice and tidy like the OCUK members market. Plus it's a lot easier to see the new posts as they don't get buried under older bumped posts innit

Re: FS bumping

I dont care. I read what takes my interest from the title or from who posted last. Bumping to the top makes no difference to that. I have found when selling stuff that bumping at peak times helps.

Not enough people agreeing. Now I'll have to have a flounce and leave the forum. Then come back two days later.

Didn't see my posts getting recycled. Yet again you fouled up a fs thread. Well done.

Your thread derailing is top notch to be fair

I would have thought bumping would be acceptable within a reasonable threshold. For example, if I list something, there is a little interest but no deal emerges, the item slips off the first page, then it would be reasonable that perhaps 10 days later I would be able to post to simply say "This item is still for sale", as it may catch the attention of someone who wasn't around the previous week. However, someone who bumps like this every couple of days, or does it for months on end would obviously become an annoyance and have a negative effect on the For Sale section.

That was because you bidded one pound more than I did just so you could have a pop at me because you didn't like the offer I had made to another site member, it's not up to you or other people to add their opinions on the for sale section as this results in a slanging match which is unhelpful to the Seller or the buyer concerned.
It seems to me that it is the same people adding their opinion where they have no right to do so by the forum rules.
I only bid on things that I'm interested in buying and at a price that I am willing to pay then it's up to the Seller to decline or except my offer, if you or anybody else would like to go through my previous postings you will find that and I do not slag anybody off nor do I give a opinion on things that I am not buying.

as for bumping up why not if it helps somebody sell their unwanted parts that can only be a good thing

ManU

If someone wants to buy your item and is looking for one, they'll search for it.
If you're after an opportunist to come along and buy your item, you must bump it. Think of the market-seller mentality...

Some members take that to extremes and whilst it's annoying I'd do exactly the same if I had an item I needed to sell on and was tight for cash.

I know what you mean. I keep seeing breast pumps on HUKD and think you never know when you'll need one.
