Forsale problems

Hi mods,

Can someone clarify the exact procedure for reporting and negotiating problems with an item for sale.

Because there appears to be confusion over wether this should be conducted by PM or transparently on the original for sale thread.

Thanks.

All communications must be on the thread,
you may not make offers or strike a deal or communicate in any way off the thread via PM/email/phone. The offer and acceptance (or refusal) must be on the thread. You are not permitted to publish your phone number, email address or any other means of communication on the thread. Please see this example of how you should offer and accept in a thread. One exception is for the sale of cars - all conduct is on the thread and then when a buyer wants to view the car then the seller should post "xxx is arranging to view the car" and then the pair can switch to PM/email. After the viewing the seller or buyer can update the the thread with the outcome.

Interesting, not one to hijack your thread but I advertised an item for sale last year but had no interest. Then a few days ago received a PM about the item from someone wanting to buy it straight away and they left their email, User had no posts either.

Seemed a bit suspect.

Nigeria does not have postcodes. Making a reference or using Nigeria as a "foot-hold" to make your point was kind of unnecessary.

All negotiations for an item should be done on the thread. Only when a deal has been reached should it move to PM's to pass over bank details etc..... No further negotiations should take place via PM.

If there is a problem with a FS thread then it's best to report the thread so that ALL Mods and Admin get the information and then we can see if we can help smooth things out.

Thanks for the clarification.
So I just report the thread with a note to the admin team.

Can this be made a sticky or added to the trading rules ?
Just to make it clear exactly what should happen and when.

Tah,
Mick

If you have a problem with a FS thread and you feel you aren't getting anywhere with the person, we have found that going public does help in some circumstances. Alternatively, you can report the thread you are having problems and/or PM's with and as a Moderating team we can try and help you come to some conclusion.

Sorry? Njgeria is well known as one of the main hubs for fraudulent internet crime.... You will be paid a gazillion pounds to let me stash my 5 gazillion pounds in your account for 24 hours but i need 1000 to pay bribes and your sort code and account number etc . The OP was clearly thinking there was something sus re the out of the blue e mail. Granted I should have maybe said area cide as they are kniwn as 419 scams after the area cide for Lagos but didnt think was going to have to answer a critique. Hence the referene. Not sur about footholds as im on the couch as I type not the north face of the Eiger...

It was flippant granted but a reasonable link. Its called humour

The issue is that they didn't post on the thread and went straight to PM?

The OP's problem is known and I 'reported' the thread to gain further advice.

I also PM'd the seller to get a balanced view but so far I've not received a response.

Ongoing and not forgotten
