The 9G cap looks like it might just pop off the same way as the 8G one did....haven't tried it tho.

Don't need to take the cap if wanting to plasti dip as I just sprayed them on the car just masked up areas which didn't want to over spray and any excess peeled off no bother

I found a genuine mirror accessory from Honda for the 9G...

Door Mirror Covers - CIVIC-5D-2012-08R06TV0600

I can't get hold of the official instruction to remove the side cap. Does anyone know where I can get hold of it?

Looks like you need to remove the mirror glass first then push the cap out once the glass is removed

You should be able to pull the glass off if you pull it towards you it will be held on with a few clips if you move the glass towards the car you should have enough room to get your hands in and pop the glass off don't pull to hard as it will have the heating wires plugged in as well
