Ecutek vs Hondata Flashpro questions answered

Seems to be a lot of incorrect information and confusion being posted on various threads by people that really don't know what they are talking about which is understandable as with anything new there will be questions asked so I will try and answer a few points raised.

I have been working with Hondata products since the start with the K20 development back in 2003-2004 so a lot of experience in their products and getting the best from them.

I have been working with Ecutek on other cars for many years now with the Evo's, GTR's and 370Zs so understand their solutions and how they can work.

Ecutek is in no way "easier" to use and in many ways more of a true programmers solutions as you can write your own maps and get the car to do things never possible before without needing to buy extra modules so has added advantages over Hondata straight away which is pretty fixed in the way it works. As someone using the software I would prefer to be using Hondata as the interface is a lot simpler to navigate.

Ecutek as a company like Hondata don't normally deal with end users. They are a software development house. If you need information you talk to your chosen tuner
Costs wise that is down to your individual tuners to work the costs out and may vary.

Ecutek as a product for the Hondas is a relatively new solution from them but the software platform has been tried and tested over many years. We at TDi North have been working jointly with them as they are a UK based company and we probably have more experience than most with these cars so was a logical partnership working with them to develop this software to achieve the results we want as swiftly as possible. This is possibly why people wont hear that much from other Ecutek registered dealers/tuners as its been in development and they wouldn't have had the exposure to it just yet. Also the buildup for Sema and the launch of the EVI would have meant slower updates to general public.

When you come to us for a remap and you haven't had one before the cost of remapping includes a licence which is attached to that ecu, just the same way that Hondata do with their licenced remaps which are a cheaper option that going flashpro.

Unfortunately the licences cannot be removed from the ecu but they can be reverted back to stock, just the same as the Hondata dealer remaps.

If an ecu is licenced then then another Ecutek dealer can remap that car and there should be no extra cost for licencing that ecu as long as they have the appropriate software. (Its a different programmers licence for each car make and model that the tuners purchase from Ecutek)

If you come to sell your car and you have an Ecutek remapped ecu its no big deal as you just find someone that wants one or get another stock ecu, replace the ecu and re-code the keys. Its no different to people that are already doing this with Hondata reflashed cars or even the older EP3/DC5's etc where people have K100's so in that way you will be able to get anything from 150-400 i'd say back depending on if your selling an ecu with a map on it suitable for someones car.

Bottom line is it is far superior to current Hondata products in terms of actual functionality and overall performance. We are getting better results and people have swapped from Hondata to Ecutek and reported the cars feeling a lot more "eager" and responsive especially lower rpms.

It's also cheaper outlay if your looking for a remapping solution. As an example Hondata Flashpro supplied setup and fully dyno tuned is 850. Hondata remapped through the dealer flashpro so your buying a licence and remapping is 650. Licence cannot be removed from the ECU like Ecutek. Ecutek remap with licence is 550.

For those wanting simple remote tuning as they can't get to a reputable "tuner" then at the moment the Flashpro is the better solution.
Ecutek will be able to offer remote tuning options with the new EVI system along with single licence leads then working with your Ecutek tuner you will build a map appropriate to your car.

The main thing that needs clearing up for me is the basic pricing - there's been lots of talk of 1k+ costs for an ECUTek remap around the forum.

From the text above, I gather that I can have a fully rolling road tuned remap on my completely standard car for 550? Without any extras like flat shifting, rev matching etc. Cheers.

Full remaps that basically give you the same as you get with Hondata is 552 for an NA setup. That includes cars with cams etc.

Other options like blips on downshifts, flat shifts and other features for the GT's all take a bit of time to setup to the car so are normally an extra charge and as laid out on our webstore.

We have however done a few weekend deals recently where we have included options at the same cost of 552 including the licence.

A boosted car will be more expensive as they take a lot longer to do but its no different to costs with remapping Hondata NA vs boosted.

If you want all the features like adjustable boost control then that's going to take more time again plus will need the boost control valves installing so dependent on setups and requirements we will deal with those cars on a car by car basis but as the vast majority are relatively simple NA setups the costs are all laid out on our webstore.

whats cheapest remap for a stock DC5 with only an induction kit and catback exhaust?
Would like the car mapped but cant afford the near 1k figures

It would be a K100 for your car. They are 765 supplied setup and fully dyno tuned
