TDi North 2010 Drag Civic's

As in previous years we are heavily involved with the drag racing scene and have a car doing the HKS drag series at Santa Pod.

Many of our customers would have seen the car at some point either at our workshop or at an event at Shakespeare or Pod in previous year first sporting a Toda NA setup then last year a Full Race GT35 install with a fully built 2.2 engine.

This year we have upped our game and gone for a GT42 which is good enough for 900bhp on its own.

As ever it was all very last minute and the video I have attached is me on the dyno at 5am on race day! The car came straight off the dyno onto the track and we went straight to Santa Pod.

We did OK considering the boost controller packed up so we could only run stock wastegate pressure of 8psi but these vids give you some idea into just what we could expect when we wind it up next weekend.

In the title it says "Civic's". Well. We are also in the process of building an All Motor K26 and aiming for the European FWD NA record. Will post more information up on that as we progress.

God Im so green with envy at the toys you lot get to make and play with.
I need some lottery numbers.

1. Have you had any temp issues with the flexi duct fresh air feed to the turbo.
2. What supplier do you use for the silicon and alloy tubing for the induction piping.
3. Do you not bother with an airfilter.
4. How the hell do you get the traction though the tarmac on the FWD.
5. Do you torque limit any gears.

No real point turboing FN2 to race due to weight. If you want records EG is the way to go realistically.

There is mesh over the turbo in form of filtering debris out. This isn't a road car

Samco pro pipes and local fabricator for aluminium work.

Will post up more pictures later but this also is real show car potential.

Our K26 will be something really special not seen outside of US. Exhausts out the bonnet is the future

yes, true about the eg6. A freind of mine is doing a k20 eg6 with borg warner turbo, 1600 cc injectores, ips intake manifold, 3,5" exhaust and other top end stuff. + 800 HP on a 800 kg car.

great idea on the k26. The eg6 k26 from team 1320 is, for me, one of the best NA k20 in the world.

Just got back from mapping it at TDi South on the Rotatest dyno and it's pretty awesome.

Made really good power but pegged it back for safety for now at 610bhp at the wheels!

This is also only running regular VPower!

Anyone going to Santa Pod this Sat/Sun come and find us.

Pics and videos to follow.

It's still CPL. Awesome car as well. Be hard to go quicker but they be up against each other this weekend.
CPLs is their own car. We don't often build our own due to costs. This car is Adam Buckleys we have just built it for him to his requirements.
The 2.6NA wr are doing is all ours. No compromises and we are going for quickest NA in that.

Between you and me I prefer racing that involves corners though and we do pretty well in that

Just out of interest how much power can the K series engines take before mods are required ?
What are the first parts to let go ?

Will be good to see what the N/A can do.
Want to R&D some prototype stuff ?
Have some ideas that might help.

Had a good day Sunday.
Car ran 10.6 straight out the box!

Will post a video up later but we were the fastest car there all day but got disqualified in the semi for a technical infringement of touching the car after it went into stage.

Really happy as we managed a 10.3 at 142mph and considering we are only running Tesco fuel and hadn't wound the boost up we have real 9 second potential!

This is our fastest run of the day and the one where we were disqualified for touching the car once it was in the beams unfortunatly.

Loads more in it yet!

Bit of an update for those interested in our progress with Adams drag car.

We got the car finished and off the dyno with a base map at 6am on race day for the first round of the HKS series but mapped only at 8PSI stock wastegate pressure as the boost controller had died. We managed to get a 12.2 and car back fine so was happy with that as a shakedown.

This Sunday just gone was our first real tester with the car which is still a fresh build and nowhere near its full potential as we need to uprate the fuel pumps, uprate the ignition system and set it for race fuel but it would give us some more time to datalog and slowly get Adam used to the big power increase from last year with his GT35 to the much bigger GT42.

Last week we took the car down to TDi South to borrow their Rototest dyno so we could dial in some boost fully loading it up safely. we had also done a lot of work installing new injector drivers, electric water pump control and the Hondata boost controller which ran really well.

Plan was to wind it up as much as possible then back it off for the tracks conditions but it didn't quite go as planned with the time we had plus the ignition system started playing about as well as a head lifting issue so the maximum we finished with was 610bhp at the hubs running 1.38bar. This is all done using regular 99 Teso fuel. We will go full race fuel later once some head strengthening’s been carried out and ignition sorted along with a list of other jobs to do.

To say we are pleased with the results would be an understatement!
At the track I dialled in only 1 bar in 3rd and 4th and Adam did a 10.6 straight out the box.
This was then backed up with a 10.4 and we went straight into qualifying.

This is where we found the idle had gone to crap and ignition light was flickering indicating a charging problem.
As fastest qualifiers we were able to sit out the last qualifier and try and fix the fault. Unfortunately for us the alternator had packed up so the car was only running on the lightweight race battery which isn’t that good.

We did the first elimination run with the car not idling correctly so Adam had to keep revving it to stop it from stalling. If it stalled we wouldn’t be able to start it again.
He did teh 3rd gear burnout, rolled out the bath and blew a massive and I mean massive flame on teh over-run which must have been a good 6ft straight out the bonnet for several seconds making everyone....especially adam jump!

Staged, did the run and another 10.6 with a missfire at the top end.

Into the semi.

We were up against the backyard lads that had a problem so we only needed to break the beams but we decided that as long as the car was running with no check-lights due to cranking voltage so the ecu would have been in limp we would go for it. I had dialled in 1.2 bar in 3rd and 4th still under our maximum so it should have been a bit quicker if Adam could nail the start.

Again into the water box, big 3rd gear burnout and the car rolled forwards to stage but due to teh idle adam couldn’t pull up short of the stage and rolled on. The car was full of tire smoke so the lads ran over to clear the car which was where the infringement was made. Your not allowed to cross the beams or crew touch the car once it is in the staging beams. You can in pro when you see the massive burnouts and cars rolled back but not in this class unfortunately as we found out after the run.

Anyway. Adam launched it pretty well and managed an ET of 10.35 @ 142mph!
really can't believe it as we thought mid 10's would be the limit but looking at the datalogs now, knowing we can go much more boost with the turbo as well as running race fuel, we are about 25kg overweight so more to come out....its looking like we could now be in a race to be the first into the 9's!

Anyway. A video of our fastest run from yesterday and you can see clearly what happened with them touching the car and a couple of photographs.

Enjoy....We certainly are!

Surely you need some mesh over that front intake to stop small children/dogs/cattle/the world getting sucked into it?

That's alright then, at least they'll only get stuck in the intake pipe.
