@Paul (North) DC5 Brembos

Thinking about some DC5 Brembos, well Acura TL Type S Brembos to be exact.

I can source the calipers, but will need pads, S2000 discs, spacers and your knowledge of what to do.

I would prefer to try Cosworth pads if they do them in the right size, DS2500/DS3000 if not.

I'm also thinking of a grooved disk instead of a standard one, so any suggestions?

I've been told you can use 5mm spacers on the OEM wheels with the Brembos, but I'm thinking 15mm will fill the arch better with the camber I'm running and they are about the same price aren't they? I would want front and rear for the looks if nothing else unless there is a reason why I shouldn't.

You can PM a price or post up, I'm not fussed about people knowing what I spend.

I'm thinking of going for this set-up over the Stoptech Touring kit, unless it ends up a similar price all in and/or you think that the Stoptech kit will be better round Nurburgring and Spa next spring.

I'm not really keen on spending 1500 on the full BBK though I know this will give the best results for the road trip, but might be overkill for the 95% of the time the car will spend on the road.

Some mates have been trying to talk me into the Spoon cailpers, but they seem mega considering they use the same pad and disc size. They can't be as good as the Brembos or Stoptechs can they?

Cheers in advance.

Personally id go for stoptech discs, ds3000's, RBF600 fluid and braided lines if you dont have them already. Brembo's are a slight upgrade but not on par with a BBK IMO

I've got everything you've mentioned bar the Stoptech discs and I'm on DS2500s.

I do get good bite, but I've managed to get them to fade quite a bit since having the charger put on.

So you would rate the Brembos, Spoons and Stoptech Touring (300mm, slightly smaller 4pot than the full BBK) as roughly the same?

Looking at the full Stoptech BBK really then!

Im not to sure on requirements to be honest as not fitted the Brembos to an FN2.
Saw one come in last week though and it had spacers behind the discs to get them to sit central in the caliper which isn't great.
Problem is disc to pad area. Only the Brembos actually offer a bigger pad. Just applying more force will cause overheating of the pad and disc and create warping and fade if used in anger too much.

I used to have the Spoons with DBA rotors on my EP3. They looked good but still overheated with track use and are expensive for what they are plus it's jut the calipers you buy. You still need the brackets, lines, pads and rotors. Stoptech do work out really good value when you start to look at it that way.

Certainly does seem that is the case!

Bit more saving required then!

I had the stoptechs on my old FN2, Done a few trackdays with them and a lot of days out driving around the Brecon Beacons in Wales. Never had any fade and worth their weight in gold. They may be a little overkill or driving to work and back. But it is nice to think that if you do need to do some extreme braking

+1 on saving the extra for the Stoptech BBK they are awesome

Another thing to note is a 6kg weight saving on the Stoptech BBK over standard discs and calipers

Aye same as the K-sport ones. TerryH uses them.

Two concerns really.

How easy will it be getting hold of pads and discs since they aren't mainstream.

I've also not heard good things about D2 parts. Their camber arms for example for the EP3/DC5 are pretty poor by all accounts.

Yes I think they're the same as the k sport mate, as for pads and discs I'm not sure. Was just throwing it out there as an option mate. If I had the money I'd just get the stoptechs but the big kit as I think the touring kit looks small.

Yeah, for stoptech you can use almost all brands ENDLESS with EIP001 part number or even Project Mu with Z152 part number. Just need to take a look for specific Porsche pad shape. I'm not even mentioning about such common pads like DS2500 or HAWK. I'm mounting my ENDLESS pads with my stoptech tomorrow, and it was dedicated for Porsche, and it had the same pad shape as DS2500 dedicated for stoptech.

All my mods are only based on JDM manufacturers except brakes. These are STOPTECH BBK, because they got the best quality for price... and they are so good, that when I'm taking a friend for a ride and start to accelerate and later I had to brake from 200kmh (~125mph) he said "The acceleration is impressive, but how the car brakes is much more impressive..."

cant praise the stoptech bbk enough to be honest, its an awesome bit of kit. takes time getting used to it, i was used to applying hard pressure to brake in time at speed with the oem setup. apply the same pressure with the bbk and u'll stop far too soon, theres no hint of spongyness at all and you slow down quick. well worth the price tag

I've just received my k-sports and they look very well made. Pads are off the shelf (ds2500) and discs are 2 piece AP so no problems with availability. Being fitted on Wednesday so I will let you know.

I'm waiting for your opinions on them!

I'm all for people bringing out new products and I don't want to seem over critical because you've ordered them, but they just don't seem all that to me. I mean they look well made in the pics but they are dearer than the D2/K-Sport ones that I would consider if not going for a big name make.

Plus would you buy brakes from this man?

LOL the chicks no bad tho lol

I think they look good, the spec is the same as the stoptech BBK so just need to see if they perform as well, but they are 500 cheaper so if they are just as good or there abouts it's a good price, I'll let you know in due course
