MPG improves with age

I've just done pretty much the same trip as I did last year to the lakes and back (have i mentioned that before?!). 550 miles this year, 560 last year.

Anyway, last year MPG was (at 1600 miles) it was 30.3, this year (at 8700 miles) it was 35.9.

Weather was slighly coder, but still had A/C on most of the time to deimst the windscreen.

Therefore, unscientifically, I conclude the MPG improves as the engine loosens up.

It will be interesting to see next year's results...

Also, FYI, same shell petrol station in Lancaster is exactly 20p more than the same week last year! Inflation for you!

Indeed - not loosening of any parts, just the improvement of the seal between the pistons and the bores as the piston rings wear into the correct shape.

Also, you get more used to the cr so drive to suit the car more after a time.

Also you stop playing with the VTEC / turbo quite as much
