On the way to France in June, we travelled by Ferry from Dover to Calais. It was one of those funny Sea France ferries where the cars are split across two levels. The cars get to the top level via a ramp and drive right to the front of the ship.
When it's time to disembark, the cars on the lower deck drive off first and then the very front section of the upper deck actually pivots down into a ramp and you drive your car down the ramp and off to France.
Well, needless to say my Type-R was parked on the ramped section of the upper deck with a French plate BMW Touring behind it. The ramp pivoted and tilted downwards and the BMW rolled down the ramp straight into the back of my car!! Everyone whose car was on the ramp was stood at the side watching and everyone gasped and looked round etc. Except for me who may have let out an expletive or two.
A Sea France employee rushed over and chocked the BMW but my heart was just thumping in my chest. I couldn't believe it! Not on the first day of our holiday!!
Once the ramp was fully extended I was allowed on to inspect my car fully expecting the bumper to be dented and/or knocked loose.
Fortunately, everything was OK, but I didn't half give the Frenchie a piece of my mind. He hadn't put his handbrake on. What a dimwit. Leaving your handbrake off on the street is bad enough, but on a ferry?!!! Idiot.
