not revving in 4th and 5th

Hi , just after a bit of advice. the garage across the road from work currently has a type 'R' in with an engine/gearbox problem. The mechanic always pops over when he has a problem with a type r to see if I know of any known issues as he knows I read this forum. The car is revving fine all the way into vtec in 1st second and 3rd gear but as soon as he changes into 4th/5th revs drop to around 3000rpm and wont go any higher , sounds serious to me , any ideas .

Thanks in advance

Garage
Doubt it's the gearbox as it would just give out ratyet than limit the car, what happens if he down shifts from 3k rpm in 6th to 4th?

Cancel that he actually has no power in 4th 5th and 6th, car picks up again if put back into 3rd from 6th
