Window Randomly Shattered

Driving back from work, must have been somewhere on the M3. There was almost like a pop noise as the rear left window shattered. Any ideas what could cause this? Happened when I was exactly alongside a Land Rover type Mercedes I think. Can't imagine a stone could have done it flicking up from the other car. Anyone else had something similar?

Could well have been a stone or other piece of debris kicked up by another car. Hard to tell from the photo whether there's a clear point of impact - any sign of it in person?

Probably a stone, just one of those things I guess.

The main crack is horizontal across the middle, about 6 inches long. No particular parts which look like they've been hit.

Seems quite a steep angle for a stone to put force into the window instead of bouncing off if it came from the car beside me. How much force do you need to damage a window? In my mind you need a lot, maybe I'm overestimating.

I've currently taped it up so it doesn't fall out until I can get someone out to fix it. I think the earliest they can do is Friday which is annoying.

I'm actually thinking it probably came from another car entirely - a bit of debris that got kicked up and bounced across the road.

Stone or stress.

If glass isn't properly tempered when it is made it can be left stressed and eventually it shatters. Also, a small micro crack or chip could cause a similar event, as can poor fitment.

TBH, you'll never prove fault with Honda as there's no way to detect if it was a stone or stress.

If it's any comfort, I've lost a few double glazing units to stress. Large bang out of now where, and the outer sheet literally blown itself.

Only option is to replace it.

Had the same thing happen to me a few years back, I was certain it was thrown up from an HGV that was travelling in the opposite direction.

Yeah but if you didn't eat the glass from the window you wouldn't guff in the 1st place.
