Air filter cleaning

I have bmc air filter from my old car gonna put on the fn2. Was sitting the garage for a year. I was thinking to clean it with just water i looked and many aem cone filters you can just clean by rinsing water. Or does it need to oiled. Is that important. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Flushing with water and letting dry is fine , definitely needs oiling to catch particles that may slip through the bigger gauze .
