Clutch prices

Just started to get some quotes to fit a new clutch on my Ep3. I'd have a go myself but it involves removing shafts, loosening mounts, supporting the engine, dropping the subframe etc. Don't fancy doing that on my drive

Got one quote of 527 total including parts.
Just waiting to hear back from my local dealer

What should I expect to pay? Should I just take it to any clutch specialist? I'd have expected to pay around 450

If your confident and methodical a clutch change isn't hard ,I leave a day to do it purely for the fact of scrabbling around on the floor takes longer than the garage who has a lift , 450-550 sounds about normal including parts .

I do quite a lot of things myself but it's cold and I'm knocking on a bit so I may take the luxury of shipping this job out. The quote I have could be down to 490 if I supply parts (that's total cost including me buying the parts)

done clutches on past cars. the next one will more than likely be paid for labour.
i'm sure the subframe has to come down on the FK2 typeR so doing that on the drive, like you've found out, means subframe down.
while that itself doesnt scare me off, it's just the faff of doing it on your back and since i now have a desk job i'm no where near as strong as i used to be to lift.

now... if i had a 2 poster ramp to get properly under it, then i'd still DIY.

675 from honda by the look of it: Approved Car Parts | Fixed Price Repairs | Honda UK - Clutch Kit (including release bearing)
just hope they dont do you for a flywheel if it only needs a skim. I always cost in a skim into any possible clutch job, and be glad to find out it doesnt actually need one.
Since you've DIY'd i'm sure you know about that. it's about 75 for a skim around here

Exactly, they're an utter ballache doing them on a drive when they can be fitted in 4 hours by someone using a ramp who has proper access. After doing the one on my 2.2, on my drive, I draw the line at doing them now. I'd much rather pay a garage to do them and work some extra hours at work to cover it.

You were right about the 675 price, flywheel replacement at 648

Are you anywhere near Honda HQ? If so ask them for a quote, they are very very competitive.

Sorry, one more clutch question. I want an Oem 3 piece clutch kit and have seen somewhere that Exedy is oem, is that right?

If yours is a facelift model youll already have the lightened flywheel for this.

Seriously just get GENUINE HONDA from Cox. That's what I did with my DC2. Smooth as hell whereas previously it was a bit snatchy. Think I paid 160quid for it.

LUK, Exedy, i'd go with for non genuine. theres a few others but they escape my mind. OE quality stuff and I've never seen issues with them.
i've only had issues with those no-name 'stage1 performance' clutch kits.
for the price of genuine, i'd go with that.

Have you tried TGM Flashy?

They supplied and fitted for my fn2 for less than you've been quoted, and they'll warrant the part and workmanship.
If you buy the part yourself and it fails prematurely, you'll have to swallow the labour costs to get it swapped again.
