Ep3 timing chain interval.

Currently looking to pick up and Ep3 CTR for use at weekends etc. Ive seen an 03 plate with 96k miles. Has a full stamped service history and looks to have been looked after. Im wondering what the timing chain replacement interval is? Dealer says there is no evidence that it has been changed but has main dealer history. Has put me off slightly if it hasnt been done. Am i right to be put off or am i being ott?

Depends on what you are paying, factor a chain replacement into the cost. Peace of mind etc.

Thanks for the response. Its on for 4400, it has a few mods mostly breathing mods like exhaust/manifold and intake stuff with remap. I was first drawn to it because of the full service history as you see quite a lot of examples with part or no service history. Could use it to haggle the price i suppose which i was going to do regardless.

I got my 06 Premier on 85k for less than that, but mod free. Add in another 450 if the clutch hasn't been done yet.

It does also depend on how the car has been driven by its previous owners.

I know the history of my EP3 and it is on 202,000 miles, and still on the original timing chain, guides and tensioner. Regular oil changes have helped as has not bouncing it off the rev limiter every time that I used to drive it hard.

If you feel that it needs to be changed based on mileage alone, then get it changed.

Thanks for the info. I reckon i would still look to get it changed at 100k plus but maybe not immediately if the car had been looked after i.e. Full service history.
