Looking at buying an FN2, how do I tell if it's modified?

Hi all,

Looking at buying an FN2 and have been pottering about and test driven a few. I've been using the buying guide to look for the basics but how do I tell if it's modified?

My concern is i get one insure it then discover it's had a remap etc. How do I tell when assessing the car?

Vtec engagement is a big giveaway, oem should engage vtec around 5,600rpm (I think, can't remember exactly as mine was mapped to engage at 4,200 rpm )
Visually, check if it looks lowered, under the bonnet you should see standard airbox and intake manifold, the exhaust is also worth checking. Plus wheels, brakes etc

+1 to Flashy.
If you check all the stuff in the buyers guide on the forum and follow his advice you shouldn't go wrong.
If it has not had too many owners then get a look at the V5 and see if you can track them down and ask what they know.

Mines being fixed so the upgrade to Type r dream is dead (Plus the colour i was looking for seems hard to find cheeky blues) . Now thinking turbo!
